Budgets are wasted when incentives are set based on arbitrary channel efficiency or volume targets instead of business outcomes. These "goals" make it too easy to end up overspending in channels or tactics because they appear to be performing, but only because other indicators of success (or failure) like traffic quality, diminishing returns, incremental value, or business growth are being ignored. Instead, we recommend focusing on broader goals, and recognizing when we can’t - or shouldn’t - meet our targets (or where our targets may be wrong) to help us avoid big marketing spend waste. Discovering your next new favourite series or film will become easier, whether you’re connected to the app or not 🚨 How could a popular streaming giant pull this off? They introduced a new feature that could download related titles automatically. This wasn't all, there was another interesting use case to this feature; It allowed for automatic download of the next episode in the series you were binging. You could always choose to turn it off They also noticed something peculiar just when this feature was being adopted; The downloads were taking up too much space and consuming a lot of data to complete these downloads So they added additional controls to these downloads and enabled users to set limits to these downloads and also turn on or tun off the feature. The more space you allow, the more recommendations the app downloaded for you. Imagine a feature that quietly understands your space, adapts based on your device’s capacity, and learns your tastes—all without you having to lift a finger. Recognising the challenges users were facing, the streaming company didn’t just stop at offering manual controls. They had an intelligent system in place that could adapt to individual user patterns. Based on each user’s recent device activity, viewing history, the feature would automatically prioritise which content to download I'm sitting here wondering how on earth do they come up with simple solutions that skyrocket monthly retention rates to 98% as on December 2023 Lastly, I would like to leave you with another astonishing fact; The average subscriber on this app pays for the service for nearly 50 months! #streamingservice #productmanagement #productupdate #ott

Gen Z's Netflix? A 5-minute series app. The future of entertainment just got even shorter. This week, TechCrunch dropped a report on the most downloaded apps in the US (18-24 demographic). Not surprisingly, Temu and TikTok claimed top spots. But there is a new trending app there, called ShortMax. It’s a micro-series streaming app. Each episode is just 5-7 minutes long. And that's it. It’s now even more clear that ⚡ quick, bite-sized entertainment is becoming the norm. I think content will continue to condense and become smaller in the future. Each piece of it will not contain one complete thought, only a fraction of it. But there is hope for civilization: through repetition, these different pieces of content will eventually form one coherent message, some more complex thought.
