I've learned that despite our best efforts, things don't always go as planned. Unexpected challenges can arise swiftly, testing our resilience and adaptability. These moments require navigating the immediate issues while extracting valuable lessons for future growth. Embracing unplanned turns helps refine strategies, fortify defenses, and ultimately, strengthen leadership. Every twist and turn becomes an opportunity to learn, grow, and enhance our approach to security and leadership. #Leadership #CISO #Resilience #ContinuousImprovement #CyberSecurity

Dear CEO.....! A thought provoking read. Working with Tyler J. Farrar on his latest article is always a pleasure. During his appearance on the Cyber909 podcast, we had an engaging discussion about the challenges faced by CISOs. I mentioned that we should also consider the perspective of the CEO. Just a few days later, Tyler had crafted an insightful piece then invited me to add my unique Scottish touch. This article is definitely worth a few minutes of any #CEO's time! #CISO #CSO #Founder #CEO
🚨 Dear CEO: It’s time to rethink security leadership and empower your CISO 🚨 This follow-up to The CISO Paradox dives into the challenges CISOs face today — from lack of authority to accountability without autonomy. A huge thanks to Den Jones, founder of 909Cyber, for his insights: "We’ve never seen a time like this where so many quality CISOs are considering stepping back from the role. The next few years will be interesting to watch the evolution of the CISO." Read the article (📎 link in the comments), and let me know your thoughts! #cybersecurity #leadership #CISO #CEO

Tyler J. Farrar CISOs should have a "seat at the table" because cyber risk is business risk. However, to earn this seat, CISOs need a process and tools to align their security programs with business goals. This requires a credible risk-driven process for sizing the security budget and allocating that budget across people, processes, and technologies. By risk-driven, I mean identifying the cyber-related loss events of concern to business leaders and driving the cybersecurity program to reduce the probability of material impact from those events to a level acceptable to the executive team and the board. This requires tools that credibly connect security metrics to business risk expressed in dollars. I call this "Moneyball for Cybersecurity." The book and the movie Moneyball were about increasing the probability of winning baseball games by using analytics to improve player selection in a budget-constrained environment. Moneyball for Cybersecurity is about reducing cyber risks by using analytics to improve control* selection in a budget-constrained environment. *By control, I mean any combination of people, processes, and technologies that reduce the probability of material impact due to cyber-related loss events. See my Comment for a link to my LinkedIn article on Moneyball for Cybersecurity. #moneyball4cybersecurity #cybersecurity #informationsecurity #infosec #CISO #risk
