Struggling to get your PR pitch noticed? You're not alone - most pitches get lost in the noise. According to a study by Propel PRM, which analysed 500,000 PR pitches, only 3.15% received a response from journalists. Even more surprising, just over 45% were opened. This is why delivering a well-written and relevant pitch is so crucial. What's our coverage success rate at ThoughtSpark? The proof is in our results 😉. Get in touch to find out how we can help you stand out from the crowd.

Initial PR pitches are just a necessary evil to get to the good stuff: follow-ups. The vast majority of responses you receive from journalists will come from follow-ups. Don’t treat them like an afterthought. Before you even send the initial pitch, plan a couple follow-up messages that share something valuable you purposely left out of the original pitch. This will make your follow-ups less annoying and more intriguing.

So rare to get tips like this. take note
Pitching stories or op-eds tied to planned events: awesome! Pitching stories or op-eds tied to planned events 24 hours before those events: less awesome. Give journalists time. This is also where knowing an outlet's rhythms come into play. At PR Daily, we publish all our stories in the morning. So if you send me something in the afternoon, it typically won't publish until the next morning. So you're giving audiences only a few hours to discover the content before it's obsolete. That's not helpful to your PR goals, either.

Someone else commented on here about a declaration from PR Week the other day that the press release is dead. It’s hardly an original observation – we’ve heard it many times before (including from PR Week - yawn!). Frankly, it’s poppycock. And here’s why. The press release: - Enables you to focus on your messaging. - Allows you to craft and hone that message. - Gives you the perspective of a news editor (or at least it should). - Provides the scope to get cohesion and buy-in from across the business before going public. - Affords you the chance to step back and address resulting difficult questions and scrutiny (the Q&A). - Provides the formal and historic record on a position or around an issue. You need to try harder PR Week if you want to inspire debate across the sector. (Photo: Suzy Hazelwood @ Pexels) #pr #publicrelations #pressreleases
