Around 8 months ago, I was invited to become an advisor to government as part of the SME business council. Here’s what I've picked up: 1) The UK Government mean to do well by SMEs 2) There is a realistic opportunity to improve the health of society, with only some BASIC changes in health regulation 3) There is too much red tape, making it easy for inactive people to hide behind 4) Meetings taking place in seriously big rooms Watch this space… What changes do you think would make life easier for small businesses?
Can i relate this to SME businesses in Nigeria?
Great insights Paul Stafford Thomas Hal Robson-Kanu, To further ease the journey for SMEs, I believe enhancing access to funding and grants, simplifying tax procedures, and fostering a more robust mentorship network could be game-changers. Additionally, creating a more streamlined process for compliance and regulatory requirements would allow SMEs to focus more on innovation and growth. Excited to see the positive changes unfold!
Not increasing employer NI contributions...
Love to see it 💫
Love to be involved, how do you get to know about such advisor groups? 😎
Clarity and consistency in terms of government policy. Prompt payments from large corporates. Decent broadband/mobile coverage across whole of UK. Speedier planning decisions. Funding support in the transition to the circular economy and to renewables.
Best wishes and Good luck with that THRK
SMEs have to be able to travel quickly, light and red tape free. Legislation has to be growth friendly, access to cheaper borrowing and free online tax advice. How about the government give them free tax advisory services for 1st 2 years for start ups and growth catalyst services for the first five years. This can be tax advisory, mentoring or access to recruitment services designed to put bums on seats quickly. The government should be a start up/SME friend, and not the anchor to hold back growth
I think that 99% of SME businesses are petrified with the mixed signals coming out about the Autumn budget in 2 weeks. I speak to hundreds of owners a month and most are expecting some huge moves in the budget that is going to make life very tough. Clarity (much like in Football management and coaching) is KEY. And it's lacking at the moment 🤔
