This water heater was installed in 2019 with 6 year extended warranty. With 1.5 years of warranty to go, I am keeping my fingers crossed. My previous water heater didn't last 6 years but was covered by extended warranty which I bought for $100 extra premium. I did a power water flush to drain the tank and didn't find any particles after 4.5 years. Maybe the water softener helps a lot. I should do it every year though. It only took about 15 mins. to drain the tank. You stop when the water is getting colder and I used the warm water for the lawn. My first water heater (developer's tract stock) lasted 15 years. They don't make things to last anymore. How many of you drain your water heater every year? I hope to keep this WH for more than 10 years and remind myself to drain it every year.

Definitely a west coast water heater with those earthquake straps.

Is that propane or natural gas? I have a propane heater and it is costing a lot. I got a quote for propane the other day for $7 per gallon.

What failed on the previous heater? The tank corroded?

“Rheem” water heaters have always treated us well and lasted long beyond their warranties.

At least on well water systems, they typically have a filter before the water softener, check that out too.

A water softener definitely helps extend the life of water heaters.

I drain mine every 6 months and use a water softener. My Rheem lasted 12 years before the thermocouple went. I just replaced the entire heater with another Rheem.
