### Introducing Always Beek1nd KC: A 501(c)(3) Organization **Mission Statement** Always Beek1nd KC is dedicated to more than just technology; it’s about community, connection, and creating a brighter future for America. By providing new tech, we aim to bring families closer, helping parents and children bond and understand each other better. Keeping kids engaged and busy with technology can keep them out of trouble, fostering a safer and more connected community. Ultimately, we are paving pathways to a brighter future in the tech industry for America’s youth. **Our Name Explained** - **Always**: Represents a habit or a consistent way of doing things. We believe in always being there, always giving back, and always caring. - **Beek1nd**: - **Bee**: Just like bees protect and serve their communities by pollinating, we aim to spread love and support within our communities. Bee also stands as an acronym for the initials of my daughters, emphasizing the personal connection and inspiration behind our mission. - **k1nd**: Pronounced as "kind," it reminds us to show kindness everywhere we go. You never know how a small gesture can change someone's life. The number "1" replaces the "i" to highlight the importance of self-care, mental health, and well-being. Taking care of yourself allows you to better care for others. **Our Values** - **Community**: Building stronger bonds within our community is at the heart of what we do. Kansas City, our hometown, is the starting point of our mission. - **Connection**: Using technology as a tool to bring families together and keep children engaged and safe. - **Future**: Providing pathways for youth to enter and excel in the tech industry, ensuring a brighter future for them and for America. **Personal Story** The spirit of Always Beek1nd KC is deeply rooted in personal experience. My background in customer service and chauffeuring, though not making me rich in material wealth, has made me rich in love and talent at heart. My journey of helping others with empathy and compassion has shaped the ethos of Always Beek1nd KC. Kansas City, the heart of America, is where my kids grew up, and I hope to see our community come together and expand this mission across the state and beyond. One all nighter = small part of getting 2 Million Dollars Twelve years ago, my colleague at Bureau Gravity Brandon Lapierre and I were asked to tell a story that would resonate deeply with our hearts. We created a video showcasing the incredible journey of Pau Khai, an immigrant who fled Burma for human rights violations, and whose life was transformed through The Neighbor Project's Network Savings Program. The program helped him buy a house and eventually lead to him starting his own grocery store in Aurora. The American Dream! Little did we know that Kai’s story would change so many lives. When we were editing it I remember walking into the office one morning and seeing Brandon passed out on the sofa. He said he’d been up all night editing because he was so captivated by Khai's story and just couldn’t stop. It wasn't just any story; it was a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of community support. It was beautiful. Rick Guzman the Neighbor Project Executive Director’s initial reaction to the video speaks volumes: "I didn't know a video that good could be possible." I vividly recall the moment when we shared it with The Neighbor Project's team (Hayley Meksi and Lissa Chleboun). Tears welled up in their eyes, knowing that this story beautifully encapsulated their mission, their struggles, and their client’s triumphs. Fast forward to 2016, when The Neighbor Project was honored as one of the Top 100 Most Innovative Social Enterprises/Non-Profits in the world by Classy. Rick attributed a significant part of this recognition to Khai's story. Rick said, “It was included in our submission and even featured during the award presentation in DC.” Today, I am thrilled to congratulate The Neighbor Project as they been awarded a $2 million grant through the MacKenzie Scott Foundation. Rick thinks Khai's story, even a decade later, played a small part in sharing their story. This has been a simple, yet powerful reminder for me: that a good story has the potential to change lives. It can inspire action, ignite empathy, and drive meaningful impact. I love when companies seamlessly connect their business with how they positively impact their communities. Bonus points when it empowers employees or customers to take ownership over the shared value. Thrivent is a perfect example. As a Thrivent member, I can host two Action Teams per year. These teams are told to go out and multiply the good in the world, and Thrivent provides the funds to get started. 🎄This year, our family decided to buy supplies to make blankets for seniors in an Assisted Living facility near my kids' schools. From a professional perspective: Thrivent's Action Teams are even more impressive because they are authentic to the company's values AND allow individuals the freedom to support the cause they care most about. AND drum rollllllll, the impact is measurable in multiple ways. 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽Throwback Wednesday 💃🏽💃🏽 How we declined Funding A few months ago, we reached a pivotal moment in our journey. After countless sleepless nights and tireless efforts to secure partnerships, a major bank offered to sponsor us. It felt like a dream come true... until we learned the full terms. They wanted the numbers—thousands of people empowered—without truly investing in their growth. It would have looked great on paper, but it would have betrayed the very foundation of why we started: to create deep, lasting impact in the lives of women and children. Saying no was one of the hardest decisions we ever made. We felt the weight of our sacrifices, and for a moment, it felt like all our hard work had led to nothing. But looking back, it was one of the best decisions we ever made. We refused to compromise on our mission, and it’s because of that choice that we’re here today, empowering people the right way. To anyone reading this: Stay true to your values. There will be tempting shortcuts and moments when the easier path seems inviting. But remember why you started. Integrity may cost you in the short term, but it will build a legacy that stands the test of time.
