I joined Ali Miraj on LBC Radio yesterday to discuss COP29, its $300 billion pledge, and how investments in efficient energy infrastructure can and should cut costs, improve productivity and make more money because they waste less. ‘$9 trillion has been invested into renewable energy in the last 20 years, but it hasn’t had much impact on greenhouse gas emissions’. We need renewables but we also need efficiency. Most energy is lost or wasted in extraction, conversion, generation, transmission and distribution. It's time to get efficient and commercially sustainable. Fast.

And finally some good news … EU emissions have fallen by 8% due to increase in renewable energy generation. We can get close to a fully decarbonised power grid in Europe by 2030 if we accelerate deployment of #wind, #solar, #storage and #grids. Read the excellent Eurelectric #PowerBarometer which gives a lot more detail: https://lnkd.in/efTSbe3f Read the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA) policy recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/eMS2VfaF #Time4Action https://lnkd.in/etZn2mAG

Rising Oil, Stalled Transition: Can Renewables Catch Up? We need to accelerate renewable energy transitions to meet the Paris Agreement, but consumption and investment in the oil industry continue to rise. Global oil and gas consumption increased by 14% from 2013 to 2023, posing a challenge to limiting global warming. As if that weren’t enough, some oil and gas companies have weakened their commitments to reduce investment in upstream projects. Given these trends, how can we ensure a meaningful shift toward renewable energy and a successful energy transition? Sorce: Institute for Global Sustainability
