📢 Quick update from the latest NY Cannabis Control Board (CCB) meeting: Big milestones reached—over 1,100 adult-use licenses issued this year and the opening of New York's 200th dispensary! 🌱 The market is expanding fast. Currently, there are more licenses than active proximity protections, and we anticipate updates to some proximity protections by Oct 23rd. We’ll be looking into this and reporting back soon. Also, provisional licensees do not need to return to the board for final approval, meaning there may be fewer provisional licenses and more active retail operations than shown in the table. #NYCannabis #CannabisRegulations #MarketGrowth

ICYMI: The #NYCCB is tasked with regulating all things #NYcannabis. Here are the updates from Friday's public meeting: • The #NYCCB has approved 104 adult-use licenses. The full breakdown of license distribution is detailed below. Additionally, with the new authority to issue provisional licenses, the Office has already or is in the process of issuing an additional 17 retail dispensary provisional licenses. The Office is actively reviewing and issuing additional adult-use licenses on a rolling basis. If you've been contacted by the Office, please respond to any deficiency letter with the requested information to keep your application processing. All updates must be made within 30-days of the notice. • The #NYCCB has denied 79 initial CAURD applications from the September 2022 window. These applicants didn't meet program requirements, which included common issues such as lack of justice involvement proof and qualifying business evidence. • The #NYCCB approved the emergency regulations amending Part 133. These changes include expanding stop work order protocols and streamlining emergency hearing processes. • The #NYCCB approved an extension to CAURD provisional license period by 12 months from original issuance date. CAURD licensees will also be allowed to establish retail dispensaries throughout the State, not just in their provisional license region. • Four Registered Organizations Dispensing Facilities have been approved by the #NYCCB to further expand access to medical cannabis. • The #NYCCB has approved to simplify and expedite the licensing process for applicants from the November 2023 application window. All applications in the November queue will be reviewed by the Office in sequential order, with priority given to this review over the processing of licenses for retail and microbusinesses in the December queue.

Can a CANY member or anybody please explain to me the thinking that went into this fear based campaign? Can you show your work? What are the goals? Who does it benefit? What documents and data helped you make this decision? Did you run economic models? How many? What are the variables? What are the qualifications of the people making these recommendations?
The state has promised to issue 1500 licenses this year. We, the CANY Board of Directors, believe those licenses should be issued as quickly as possible. Internal discussion in the industry is circulating about the expansion of the licensing pool beyond that number. Based on the current pace of licensing to date, we are suggesting that any new expansion should be based on data driven research and at a minimum, should have input from our members, industry operators and stakeholders. Please see our letter to the Cannabis Advisory Board below. #newyork #cannabis
