In my 18 years in HR, one thing consistently causes the most issues in employee relationships: The psychological contract. This refers to the unspoken expectations and assumptions between employees and the organization, including its leaders and managers. These expectations influence behavior, communication, and support. The psychological contract is vital for employee engagement. When there's a mismatch between expectations and reality, it can lead to dissatisfaction and disengagement. 💡Like in coaching, it’s essential to regularly discuss and clarify these expectations. It’s never too late to start this with your teams. Leaders, I encourage you to talk with your employees about their expectations and your own. Regularly aligning these psychological contracts can greatly improve employee wellbeing and engagement. Let’s all commit to fostering clear, shared expectations in our workplaces.
