Good morning Physician Associate’s, Have you ever felt uncertain about going to work due to the vote from the RCPGP which voted against PA’s working in GP? I have news for you don’t be: 1. I encourage every PA to register and become a member of the UMAPS. 2. If any employer tries to change/alter your contract or scope of practice based on BMA guidelines or tries to get you to leave your place of work-contact UMAPs 3. Firstly, don’t agree to changes to your contract. Write an email opposing those new terms and conditions 4. Secondly, please keep a log of those changes that are made to your contract. No employer can terminate your contract without NHS or governemental change. Especially not based on a vote from RCP. DONT allow the fear let you be pushed out of your job role. REACH OUT WE GOT YOU!!!!! UMAPs Faculty of PA's at the RCP General Medical Council NHS England NHS

Dear Physician Associates, We understand the challenges you face in securing roles within general practice. Unfortunately, some of these issues stem from misconceptions about the PA profession, fueled by negative rhetoric from organizations like the RCGP and BMA. Their concerns around scope of practice, supervision, and funding, often amplified in media articles, have created unnecessary barriers to employment. This has delayed the acceptance of PAs in general practice, despite the increasing pressures on the NHS. However, progress is being made: • The GMC will begin regulating PAs in December, enhancing confidence in your role. • UMAPs is actively advocating for your profession, challenging stigma, and promoting fairer hiring practices. • Growing workforce shortages are driving greater recognition of your value in patient care. Your dedication to healthcare is invaluable, and despite these challenges, your profession’s future is bright. Positive changes are on the horizon, and we remain confident in your vital role within the NHS. The ARRS Scheme - but in our favour! 🤨I know, even I couldn’t believe it at the start. If you aren’t aware, it was announced earlier that the ARRS Scheme has expanded to include General Practitioners. This would aim to tackle the growing issue of GPs losing work whilst paradoxically patient access decreases. This is a move done by Wes Streeting, on behalf on the new Labour Government at the repeated advice from the BMA and the RCGP. ✅ It’s great to see new government making changes from the start. 👀This situation is similar to the junior docs negotiation which took months. But labour seems to have made an agreement within a few weeks. However, I do have a couple of questions: ❓What is the remuneration level for salaried doctors? ❓How many salaried doctors will be allowed per PCN? ❓How long would this new scheme last? The literature only says for the year 24/25 so makes me wonder whether it is a short term fix. ❓Which GPs will benefit? It is a bit vague on who is impacted. Does it mean only employing locum GPs ? They also say that newly qualified GPs will be included. But this is such a broad term. What does newly qualified mean? 🗣️As you can see, a lot of questions have been raised. The details of this new scheme will matter, and I’m watching this space eagerly. #NHS #primarycare #ARRS

GPs in the England have decided overwhelmingly to industrial action and disrupting services off the back of the Labour government offering a 22.3% pay rise to junior doctors (in hospitals) but offering only 1.9% funding increase to GPs for services in Primary Care. The floodgates have been opened by Labour: 5.5% pay rise for public sector workers versus inflation at 2% 22.3% rise for junior doctors Waste and refuse collectors in Scotland balloting to go on strike Labour have robbed Tory voters to pay Labour voters and their Trades Union buddies it seems. For sure, Labour in under four weeks have shown they will create an exodus of businesses, wealth and investors out of the UK. By the end of their first term in office, the UK will be on its knees from strikes and industrial actions and trade union demands.
