The goals in therapy, counseling, and coaching should be SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Example: I want __; for this I will do __ two times a week; I have time and resources for it; this will allow me to achieve __; I will continue for __ time (after which, the goal is revisited and adjusted).

Emotion coaching is a great way to support children understand and work through emotions.
We are thrilled to let everyone know that Dr. Louise Gilbert's paper based on her doctoral research is finally now published! In this she presents a tool to support integration of Emotion Coaching practice into educational and community settings, and explores the critical role of the practitioner in this process. The paper, 'Promoting social and emotional learning (SEL) in settings through Emotion Coaching practice: a model of engagement for practitioner use' is free to access and download from Pastoral Care in Education Journal, linked below: https://lnkd.in/dGTuG66f

Why prioritize an evidence-based approach? Research shows us that adolescent interventions rooted in solid research substantially boost self-perception, school engagement, positive social behaviors, grades, and decrease problem behaviors. Opting for approaches lacking research backing often gives us less than average results. Ready to transform your coaching practice or youth-serving organization? You’ve got the key to the city and the t-shirt that reads: ”WORLD CLASS EXPERT AT HARD TIMES” You know how to handle rainy days, cranky kids, marital landslides, health crises, and all the rest. But the good stuff? Yeah. That’s the hard stuff. I get it. I went to this miserably boring therapist about 3 decades ago. She was like bland toast and uninspiring. I went to 6 sessions with her and felt like she needed therapy more than I did. But on the last day, of the last session I asked, “Do you have any homework - any assignments for me?” She answered blandly, “You seem to be an expert at holding onto the hard things… maybe this week, try holding onto the good.” Holy whoa… That lesson has stayed with me since my 20s. To look at where I let go of or resist good things is the view into my beliefs of unworthiness. To address unworthiness, means that you connect back to your value on the inside instead of getting it from your looks or money or degrees or fame. To connect back to your value means that you know who you are and in that, you FEEL your worth and set healthy boundaries. When you do all of that, the natural by-product is that you can finally hold on the good. Not all the way there yet? Reach out for a session and we’ll start walking through that process together. I know how to do it because I had to do it with myself. You’re not alone. And you’re not unworthy. Hold onto the good. Love Stacey P.S.
