Dear Son, The average man lives to 80 years. I have 41 years left with you. Here are 11 life lessons I want you to understand before you turn 42: 1. Time is your most valuable currency Money is a necessary resource, and you should respect its role in providing stability and opportunity. But don’t let it overshadow what truly matters. Balance your approach—invest in your goals, but never at the cost of time and relationships that make life worthwhile. 2. Fear is a compass Fear of failure or survival can paralyze us—but it can also push us toward growth. Acknowledge fear, but don’t let it dictate your choices. 3. Effort is noble, but sustainability matters Working 14-hour days pursuing my dreams and caring for you as a baby brought moments I’ll always treasure. I don’t regret the effort, but I’ve learned to ask: Is this sustainable? Hard work should build your life, not stretch it too thin. Balance is key to lasting success. 4. Learn to let go of control Whether it’s a business or a relationship, you can’t control every variable. Trust others. Collaboration often yields better results than perfectionism. 5. Generosity is powerful but finite Helping others will bring joy, but remember to protect your resources—time, energy, and money—so you don’t deplete yourself in the process. 6. In investing, build before you leap The most prudent strategies win. I’ve seen too many people go bust chasing quick, aggressive wealth. The higher the risk, the more unpredictable the outcomes. Build solid financial foundations first—stack wealth layer by layer before taking calculated risks. True wealth is sustainable, not precarious. 7. Don’t seek approval from everyone Your journey is yours alone. The need for validation from others can pull you in too many directions. Focus on what aligns with your values. 8. Know when to pivot Life doesn’t come with a fixed playbook. Circumstances will change. Adapt and redefine your goals, knowing some sacrifices are necessary for growth. 9. Be proactive with your health There’s no way to fully control health challenges, but you can stay vigilant. Have regular health checks, even when you feel well, and take care of small issues before they grow into bigger ones. Health is a gift—protect it. 10. 110% is a technique, not a rule Giving 110% is powerful, but it’s not always necessary. Learn when to apply it for critical tasks and when rest is needed to sustain your momentum. Success comes from knowing when to push hard and when to pull back. 11. Fulfillment lies in service Helping others will give your life profound meaning—but it’s not about ego or recognition. Find genuine ways to give back, even if it’s in small acts. These lessons come from years of trial and error, and life will teach you the rest in its own time. You don’t need to master them all at once—just keep moving forward and stay curious. Even if I’m not physically with you one day, my love and guidance will always be a part of your journey. Love, Dad
