With 60 percent of the world’s population, the Asia-Pacific region is pivotal for the future of AI governance. Our colleague Frank Ryan attended the 2024 Asia Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum in Taipei, gathering insights into the region’s unique challenges and opportunities for responsible internet and AI governance practices.
Speakers included Taiwan’s Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim, Senior Fellow at Project Liberty and Taiwan’s former Minister of Digital Affairs Audrey Tang, Global Digital Policy Incubator’s Research Scholar and Internet Society Trustee Charles Mok, and Taiwan’s Minister of Digital Affairs Yennun Huang.
#APrIGF2024 drew more than 1,000 participants for 57 sessions, as well as side events. Access Now's “For a better digital democracy: defend and strengthen digital rights with public-private partnership” (pictured below) included panelists from Open Culture Foundation, AI Academy Taiwan, ABA ROLI, ARTICLE 19, and the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines.
