The one thing I will bug the law firm partners about when it comes to marketing (with an example). Most activities that fall into my marketing category I can delay or deprioritize if the attorneys are simply too busy. But if there is an employment law news story, I will try to get on that reporter’s calendar as soon as humanly possible. There’s a story coming out soon about something employment law related in a well known and reputable publication. Due to the attorney’s schedule, I couldn’t get on the reporter’s calendar the first two of her available days so I asked permission to schedule on one of the attorney’s “no schedule” days. He said yes and ended up spending an hour talking to that reporter. The reporter isn’t an employment lawyer so the attorney at my firm was able to explain some of the intricacies about this particular topic. Instead of coming in as just a quote late into the already developed story, now the article will most likely be created around the information the attorney provided and resources he suggested. Reporters are amazing. They have to do a ton of research into topics they are not experts in within a short time frame. Reporters are usually also working on more than one story at a time. As an attorney, be a resource for them and be someone who responds quickly. As a communication or business development professional, communicate well. For both days I couldn’t get on her schedule due to the attorney being in a deposition, I communicated to her what was going on and when I anticipated having confirmation of a date. To the attorney, I communicated why I was asking this of him and I have built credibility not asking for time I don’t need from him. I grew up in the age of information, the age of individuals being an authority on a topic. So for me, I will always prioritize an opportunity for individuals I represent to correctly be shown in that light. #businessdevelopment #legalmarketing #pressrelationships

Navigating the intersection of fashion and law can be daunting but with determination and the right guidance, you can succeed. Here are the steps I took make my journey into fashion law less daunting, and I think you should try them too. 📌 Seek guidance from mentors and seniors. 📌Build industry knowledge and stay updated on trends. 📌Develop a strong foundation in intellectual property law. 📌Network and connect with like-minded individuals. 📌 Set clear career goals and plan your path. 📌 Remain open-minded and adaptable. 📌Gain practical experience through volunteering, interning and working. 📌Seek guidance and support through prayer and meditation. NB: There can be additions and there can be subtractions, depending on individuals and what works for them. There was never a time I was asked what my future ambition is and I said anything other than 'Lawyer.' Lawyer it has always been. In year books, compositions about myself in English classes, Literature class etc, you will always find it there! I never missed the question and neither did I ever fail to answer confidently. But, little did I know that there is a higher call. Lawyer it still is, but this time around with the artistic touch of Fashion. So now, when you ask me, I would say "Fashion Lawyer" as confidently as I can, and sometimes with questions and lots of what ifs on my mind But questions or no questions, I'm doing this! Scared or totally confident, either ways we are doing this! Do I sometimes feel like Fashion law is somehow out of the box in a nation like ours? Absolutely! But this is the life that I've chosen, the risk I have decided to take, and a life long commitment I have chosen to make. Is there a lot to be learnt and covered? Yes, a whole lot. But for now, I have decided to start from the known to unknown. The known being to share with others, knowledge, and information I've been able go gather over the years while working to provide legal solutions to fashion problems.
