Why has High CAC become the Norm for D2C Brands? Every D2C founder and marketer struggles with Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC). It’s become so common that high CAC is almost normalized in the industry today. But is it really inevitable? From my 4 years working with consumer brands, I’ve noticed that almost every client overestimates their CAC. Here’s why: • Undervaluing the power of strategic design and branding. • Accepting that they can’t generate “inbound pull” with their brand. • Over-relying on ads, SEO, and influencers to drive growth. While 90% of consumer brands are spending heavily on ads, SEO, and influencers, the other 10% are effortlessly pulling in customers with their brand presence. If you’re tired of spending more on ads without seeing the returns, it’s time to rethink your design. If you are launching brand, then make sure to invest in brand identity and design first, before you go all in with marketing. 2 key insights I used to boost this ad’s performance: (And that you'll want to steal to boost yours 👀 ) ➡️ Past data of best performers ➡️ Competitor creatives -- 1) By looking into the best performers' data I could see... ✨ The creatives and influencers that hooked the audience and got the best hold rate (i.e short straight to the point videos + the influencers used ) ✨ The copy and keywords that converted best (i.e seeing that including them on the actual video rather than the description) 2) By deep diving into their competitor's creatives we noticed... ✨ The clear distinction of ads for buyers in the various stages of the sales funnel. For example, what type of retargeting ads they were doing Vs the brand awareness ads they were putting out and how we needed to separate them for them to be most effective (i.e this ad was used at the bottom of the funnel to retarget customers) ✨ The type of social proof they were using In this industry, there's a huge importance on trust, so researching and understanding how competitors use reviews, testimonials, or influencer endorsements helped guide our use of social proof to build trust with their audience was key. 🔑Now you can see an example below of an ad that performed extremely well despite its simplicity, but i in fact made 14 different variations using the insights gathered so... TL;DR - Always test, learn from those tests and iterate best performers
