🌟 Unlocking the Potential of External Lottery Managers (ELMs) 🌟 https://hubs.ly/Q02xcQCg0 If you're venturing into the world of charity lotteries or raffles, understanding the role of an External Lottery Manager (ELM) is essential. But what exactly is an ELM, and why should your charity consider using one? What is an ELM? According to the Gambling Commission, an ELM is someone who arranges lotteries on behalf of a society or authority but is not directly part of it. Essentially, they help you run your lottery by managing various aspects like promotions, ticket transactions, and draws. Why Use an ELM? While managing everything in-house is an option, partnering with an ELM offers added security and expertise. ELMs are well-versed in compliance with the Gambling Commission's regulations and can handle multiple aspects of your lottery program efficiently. 4 Things to Look for in an ELM: 1. Secure Environment: Ensure they prioritise data security for your players. 2. Systems and Processes: Check if they have the necessary systems to handle prize-led fundraising responsibly. 3. Knowledge of Regulations: Confirm their understanding of the Gambling Commission's rules and standards. 4. Breadth of Services: Choose an ELM that can support various elements of your lottery program. Why Choose Woods Valldata as Your ELM? What are the key regulations governing online lottery platforms in India and the USA? India: In India, gambling laws are mostly regulated at the state level, and the legal status of lotteries can differ from one state to another. Some states allow lotteries to be conducted both online and offline, while others have banned lotteries altogether. The Public Gambling Act of 1867 is a central law that gives states the authority to formulate their own gambling laws. However, there is no specific federal legislation governing online lotteries in India. States like Kerala, Sikkim, Goa, and Maharashtra have their own laws and regulations regarding lotteries. For example, Sikkim has allowed online lottery sales within its state borders under certain conditions. USA: In the USA, the legality of lotteries, including online lotteries, is determined by both federal and state laws. The federal government primarily regulates interstate gambling activities through laws such as the Wire Act and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006. The Wire Act prohibits the use of wire communications for interstate gambling, which has implications for online gambling activities that cross state lines. At the state level, each state has its own laws and regulations regarding lotteries. Some states have embraced online lottery sales, while others have prohibited them. For instance, states like New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan have legalized online lottery sales, while others like Utah and Hawaii have strict anti-gambling laws that extend to online lotteries. https://lnkd.in/gvC2wCjb

Have you ever felt like you need to do something or stop doing something, but it was hard? That's me. 👇 This week I had to give something up, and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Listen, you may think this will sound silly — and on some levels maybe it is — but as I really thought about it and even studied it, it revealed something dark within me. Here's what I had to give up: buying lottery tickets. As I write this, the Mega Millions multi-state lottery jackpot is over half a billion dollars. Now, I'm not a rabid lottery player, but in general when one of the big jackpots gets over $300 million, I tend to buy some numbers until someone hits. So as the Mega Millions began to climb this past week, I started buying tickets. But every time I bought some, I had this inner voice telling me not to. I ignored it. In fact, I started coming up with all the reasons I actually SHOULD buy the lottery tickets. • "I have a lot of good causes and non-profits I want to give money to." • "My wife is dealing with some really hard health challenges and we need it for medical expenses." • "I'd be a better steward of the money than a lot of other people." • "I'll use it to build a mental health retreat center!" But no matter what reason I came up with, I still had a conviction that I shouldn't. And do you want to know what that meant? It meant that with each purchase, I was actually sinning. (I know, we don't like to use that word.) Pause. Let me be clear: I don't think buying lottery tickets is wrong for everyone at all times everywhere. HOWEVER, if you are feeling convicted about it, if there's that little voice telling you not to and you do it anyway, that's where it becomes an issue. The little voice was telling me not to. But I did it anyway. There's this verse in the Bible (James 4:17) that says, "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." That "for him" part is key. Friend, I was being told what the right thing to do was, and I still wasn't doing it. That's when it became wrong for me, that's when it became a sin. See, what became clear to me was that I was putting my hope, my trust, my faith in winning that jackpot. I was viewing it as the solution to a lot of challenges and problems. I would catch myself daydreaming about what I would do with the money, and how winning would make things so much easier and better. But you know what that meant? It meant there was a part of me that wasn't relying on God to do all that. Instead of giving him my whole trust, I had set up the lottery winnings as my safe place of refuge. My conviction, then, was that I was replacing God with the lottery. I was placing my hope in it instead of turning to him and depending on his ways and his plan and his goodness — whatever that looks like in this season. I knew what I had to do, then. There was just one little issue: my latest lottery ticket purchase was a winner. Read the link below for the rest of the story.

GambleAware, the United Kingdom’s leading gambling harm treatment charity, has published a new report that highlights children’s exposure to gambling ads. The study was carried out by CultureStudio Research, Family Kids & Youth and Sherbert Research and sampled children and young people between the ages of 7 and 25 and their families. The Qualitative Research on the Lived Experience and Views of Gambling among Children and Young People research shows that that many see gambling as a normal part of everyday life. Concerningly, many children described it as a part of their experience growing up, saying that they’ve been exposed to all kinds of gambling or gambling-like content from an early age. Because of its bright, loud and eye-catching nature, gambling has a strong appeal to children and young people. Many said that the two worlds feel “interchangeable.” The problem, according to GambleAware’s study, is that children do not understand the risks of online gambling because of the similarities between gambling and gambling-like products, such as loot boxes. The Draw of the Lottery In God's own country, lottery ticket stands are as ubiquitous as.its coconut trees and famed spices. Nearly everyone buys a lottery ticket, be it the poor, middle class or rich...for some its a daily thrill and for others an ocassional treat. The State runs daily, weekly and bumper lotteries. Results are broadcast on the official govt website as well as on all major local tv channels. Noone thinks its wrong. After all it is sponsored by the State Government who is the sole operator ever since lottery sales were nationalized in 1967. As per data available ticket sales in fy 22 was in excess of Rs 7000 cr and net profit nearly Rs 560 cr making it an important source of cash flow for the State Government. Not just the Govt but at least 1.5 lakh people earn a living from Kerala’s lottery business. If a ticket wins, even the agent who sold it gets a share of the prize money. The govt says that lottery sales only contribute 3 per cent to its income but the employment it generates is significant and thus it is a project with "great social commitment" . Critics diasgree contending that it is a significant part of the State's own tax revenue The lottery business is managed so well that Kerala now accounts for 90 per cent of total sales in the entire country. Most of these lotteries are bought by the economically weaker sections including migrant workers who try to play on the luck factor for that bumper prize often by buying multiple tickets. Psychiatrists say buying lotteries is a form of gambling, however it seems the government has normalized.lottery ticket sales through ads, and with names like "karunya" meaning compassion affixed to lottery tickets and claiming to use the sale proceeds for welfare schemes. What do I think? People's dreams and aspirations go much beyond Mutual funds sahi hain, power of compounding and saving for a rainy day. No matter how much you preach, the economics of money decisions are so complex and the desire for instant gratification very powerful. If I can change my financial destiny in a day and become richer, can I not try? The lottery ticket buyer knows the probability of winning is low and has to endure the daily grind of working to survive but what he could just change his fate? Umeed pe duniya khayam hain. P.S. this pic is of the lottery ticket that my mother bought bought for the first time a few days back.
