Queensland's new Liberal National government has the future of Queensland's unique environment in their hands. The Wilderness Society urges Queensland’s new government to act to protect nature across the state—from the state's high conservation value forests and bushland, to the Channel Country rivers and floodplains in Lake Eyre Basin, and the living cultural landscapes on the Cape. David Crisafulli and the new government will need to show real action over the next four years to protect the nature that Queenslanders love, and make sure Queensland’s environment is in better shape, than when they stepped into office. On this Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor Florida’s Indigenous communities and their deep connection to our state’s waterways and ecosystems. Florida's state parks, like Jonathan Dickinson, which are caregivers to Florida’s first federally designated Wild and Scenic River, the Loxahatchee, are not just recreational spaces—they’re vital for preserving cultural and natural resources. As we reflect on Indigenous wisdom, let’s commit to protecting these precious resources: 1)Practice Responsible Recreation: Respect water sources and habitats when visiting parks. 2)Join Clean-Up Efforts: Participate in volunteer days to help maintain our waterways. 3)Support Indigenous Stewardship: Engage with Indigenous-led conservation initiatives. 4)Educate Others: Spread awareness about the importance of water conservation. Let’s honor Indigenous Peoples Day by safeguarding Florida’s natural beauty for generations! 💧🌴 #IndigenousPeoplesDay #WaterConservation #FloridaStateParks #Sustainability #CulturalHeritage

Water is essential in crafting our wines and preserving ecosystems around our vineyards. That's why we've developed 'Treasuring Water', a global strategy to conserve water, especially in high-risk areas. This #WorldWaterDay, learn more about our commitment to preserving water through our key environmental projects, which include: 🌏 Preserving the Markaranka Wetland in South Australia in collaboration with Landscape Boards of South Australia and the Commonwealth Environmental Water Office, to cultivate tree and vegetation growth and protect rare species like the Musk Duck and the Regent Parrot. 🌏 Restoring riparian corridors since 2011 to allow the Napa River in California to rise and widen naturally, preventing sediment build-up, preserving fish habitats, and supporting wildlife recovery. 🌿🏞️ Did you know that private landholders play a crucial role in protecting Australia's natural heritage? 🇦🇺✨ With the National Trust's Conservation Covenant and Stewardship Program, landholders can make a lasting impact on the preservation of our precious bushland. 🌳🦘 🤝 By joining this program, landholders have registered a whopping 189 covenants, safeguarding over 18,000 hectares of land in Western Australia alone! 🙌 These covenants ensure that the values of the land are conserved and protected for future generations to enjoy. 🌏💚 🐨 Australia's diverse ecosystems are not adequately represented on public lands, making private land protection essential. 🌿🌍 With private landholders stepping up, we can increase protected habitats, enhance species resilience, and maintain landscape connectivity. 🌱🐦 👉 Are you a landholder who wants to make a difference? Join the Conservation Covenant and Stewardship Program today, and together, let's protect Australia's natural and cultural treasures forever! 🌿💙 #ConservationMatters #ProtectOurHeritage #LandholdersForNature 🔗 https://lnkd.in/g47GibDg

New research out today shows that nature in #NationalParks is in crisis. 🏞️ Far from being shining examples of conservation success, their rivers are polluted and special habitats degraded. 🥀 🦋 But things can and must change if we are to halt nature's decline by 2030. 🍃 The government must strengthen legal protections and increase resourcing and National Parks must put nature recovery at the heart of their work. Read the report and take action for our Parks 👉 https://lnkd.in/eGYfsRYM

We welcome the news from Maidstone Borough Council announcing that they have objected to the plans to extend Hermitage Quarry as it will impact Oaken Wood, an ancient woodland. 🙌 Kent Wildlife Trust supports the Save Oaken Woods Campaign and has also objected to the plans. 🌳 Oaken Wood is a local wildlife site that contains ancient woodland and irreplaceable habitat. A large section of Oaken Wood has already been lost and the proposals to expand the quarry would result in a further loss of ancient woodland that would be greater than the losses from HS2 and the Lower Thames Crossing combined. The soil and trees of ancient woodland are key in the fight against climate change, with studies showing that ancient woodland in the UK alone stores up to 77 million tonnes of carbon. Oaken Wood is a key habitat for a range of species and is also part of a wider ecological network linking other woodlands and green spaces together and connecting habitats that would otherwise be isolated.
