Gents : Imagine that Your friend with experience in rotating equipment is interested in starting work as a freelance trainer. 1- What advice would you have for them in this endeavor? 2- Additionally, do you have a need for their expertise to provide any training programs where you are located?

My dear Indian Freelance trainers, Never ever accept any training assignment from any organization, howsoever it may be big or even an MNC, unless you have a clear PO or a Letter of Intent that clearly specifies the per-day training fee. The trouble may become bigger if some other trainer is imparting the training on your behalf at an organization because you are a registered vendor with it and the other trainer is not. You may have agreed to give the trainer an X fee and the PO you could receive in reality may be of lesser amount. The organizations may show a great sense of urgency (which is quite possible and is not unusual in a manufacturing industry) and may want to conduct a training without any PO or LoI, claiming to release the PO afterwards. I just fell in this trap and do not want anyone else to fall in a similar trap. We freelance trainers are always at the receiving end, because we want business for our survival and consequently face such situations. In the above case, I was out of town and hence could not have conducted the training myself. Hence I requested my friend to conduct the same and he did it successfully. Now that the friend has already conducted the training, I will obviously pay him from my pocket.

Asif, you know some freelance trainers don't like to do anything you say, they just want assignments, then why do you emphasise on building a brand around them. I know very well that they don't like all this, in my experience 60% of trainers change their profile in 5 years and some hold on to some more time, if you just depend on vendors and some clients, you will always face challenges. Do you love challenges or you want world to know about your craft. I know very well it would take dedicated efforts from all freelance trainers to do everything and I will offer them guidance to do everything.... If there is a will there is a way!!!! #learnersconclave

The first proposal I sent for my training was 15K for a 1-day training program in 2018 when I began my career as a freelance trainer. I knew I may miss this opportunity when there were many trainers ready to take up the assignment in 3-5K per day for the same training. But I was ready to miss that but not to revise the proposal. Did I get the assignment, NO. Then what was the benefit? At least you should start the career with whatever you get. No, I was not ready for that. I decided to invest in my brand until I get the assignment with the pay I decided for myself. Then what happened? I invested time in building my brand. Waited for the right opportunity, I got another project after 6 months, even more with the reputed brand. They hired me for 1-year contract as a trainer and paid me 18K for 3 hrs training + travel and stay cost. And then the journey began with more such assignments as a beginner. Invest in your brand, don't settle for anything less. My message to the beginners in training Industry.
