The call was made during the African Agricultural Trade Forum, where officials highlighted the need to harmonise policies, reduce tariffs, and tackle logistical barriers. With Africa importing over 40 million tonnes of cereals annually, the emphasis is on leveraging intra-African trade through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat to ensure affordable access to food.
