Great piece from Martin Richmond at Professional Pensions on The Society of Pension Professionals latest discussion paper. Our paper analyses government proposals to push pension funds to disclose their investment levels and ensure at least 5% are invested in UK equity - and the unintended consequences that may arise from doing so. https://lnkd.in/dxRfu8EA #spp #pensions #pension #investment #trustees #pensiontrustees #policy #publicpolicy

Private equity continues to generate the most growth for allocators, according to a study by the American Investment Council (AIC), a trade association for private assets, even though their performance in the last couple of years has lagged amid languishing dealmaking and higher interest rates. The study shows not just that “private equity delivers the best returns, but that it brings diversification” as well, comments Drew Maloney, the AIC’s CEO and president, in an interview. Plus, “it gives us access to growth companies.” Writing for Chief Investment Officer Larry Light states that for the 10-year period ending in 2023, pension funds found that PE delivered the best performance, an annual 15.2%. Find out who came in second in his post here: https://lnkd.in/gp9Ps9U3 #privateequity #pe #investmentreturns #diversification

Capital gains tax relief in pension mode in SMSF If you had more than $1.6m in pension or transition-to-retirement pension (from 30/6/17), then you were able to potentially take advantage of the CGT relief provisions when selling down assets to meet the Cap., to soften the blow of the new transfer benefit cap (TBC), of $1.6m (increases each year) Those decisions need to be made soon, if they have not been made yet, before 30 June. Note – The action required is rarely portfolio-wide, but should be made asset by asset. There will be assets in most portfolios where you want to apply for the CGT relief, while other assets (potentially, where you’re sitting on losses) where you don’t want the CGT relief, so that you can use a future CGT loss to offset other gains. It is a complex decision-making process, which might go down to evaluating each parcel of a particular share that you bought over an extended period. Don’t leave this complex work until too close to the deadline – sit down with your adviser and/or accountant to work through this process, sooner rather than later. Did you know, it's ISA season this week? Move aside Halloween!! 👻 Yes, it seems like the best thing we can do is act like the tax end of year has come early, so, you have until Wednesday to max out the £20,000 Isa allowance or maximise the amount you put into a pension, which can be up to £60,000 depending on your circumstances (talk to a financial adviser if you aren’t sure). This year is on track for record contributions into pensions and Junior Isas, according to the investment platform, Hargreaves Lansdown, and second only to the pandemic for savings into adult Isas. The number of savers using up their full £20,000 Isa allowance for the 2024-25 tax year is up 40 per cent on a year ago, they said, and the number who have paid in the maximum £60,000 into a self-invested personal pension with the platform is up 69 per cent. All in preparation for Wednesday's budget or is it something else? Have we all woken up to keeping more of our money in our pockets between inflation beating cash savings accounts and access to low and zero fee funds on apps like Prosper....well, actually just Prosper if you are looking to find platform with no platform fee, 30 free funds and over 160 funds at low cost. As a Business Owner or Entrepreneur, are you exploring all potential avenues to maximize return and decrease risk? One often overlooked area is the promising world of private equity investments. Traditionally seen as a viable option for defined contribution pensions, private equity often outperforms public equity markets providing a better return on investment in the long term. It also involves less correlation with public markets, resulting in lower portfolio volatility, promoting diversification and supplying a helpful buffer in turbulent times. Here's a food for thought: Could private equity offer your company a dual benefit of supporting other businesses with capital while inviting them to share in your future growth? It seems to suggest greater alignment of interests and strategic partnerships. Sure, it's not without its challenges – managing liquidity risk remains the primary hurdle. However, a well-crafted investment model can mitigate these risks substantially. Do these insights inspire queries about your own company strategy? Unaddressed questions can hinder strategic decisions, and it's where a Business Consulting Professional could offer you unparalleled insight. Reach out to me. Let's discuss how these paradigms can be accurately aligned with your organization's ethos. #businessconsulting #entrepreneurship #privateequity #investmentstrategy #riskmanagement
