Items we have the greatest difficulty getting for clients include men’s clothing of all types, larger sizes of women’s clothing, and shoes in good condition for both men and women. Our clients need clothing for all kinds of activities including work, casual and dressy events, sports, and more. With the colder months approaching, there is a particular need for winter boots, coats, fleece jackets, gloves, hats, and scarves. If you are decluttering your closets this fall, please consider donating any winter items you may no longer need to benefit folks in our community. Your donation is most likely to go to a client if it is something you would proudly give to a friend or relative. Good donations are new or gently used, in complete working condition (with no missing buttons, broken zippers, and without tears, stains, or visible wear or damage). Donations should be free from strong odors like perfume, smoke, mothballs, or mustiness, and never wet. So then the closets start filling up and then it starts spreading into the bedroom and then the laundry can get backed up and then the overwhelm starts. ✨Tips for clothes: ✅Only keep the clothes that fit you right now hanging in your bedroom closet or in your dressers. ✅Do not shop for the fun of shopping and always go with someone to hold you accountable and make sure you are buying items you love and know what you will get rid of. ✅Declutter all of your clothes at least once a year. Check for damages and for fit. Change your hangers around in January and as you wear the clothes, turn them the proper way again. What is still turned around the following January is good to go. ✅Everything you wear out should be comfortable and make you feel good. Then, evaluate each one and determine whether to keep, donate, or discard. If you're not sure whether to keep or donate a handbag, ask yourself: "Have I used this handbag in the past year?" "Does this handbag still match my current style or lifestyle?" "If I saw this at a store today, would I buy it for myself?" "Is there someone who could benefit from this handbag more than me?" Once you've sorted your handbags, consider your options for those you no longer want. * Donate gently used bags to local charities or shelters that support women in need. * Sell them online through platforms like eBay or Poshmark * Host a handbag swap with friends or family. * And, of course, your local Buy Nothing Group is always a great option.
