When I make decisions about my career and the work or projects I support, I try to keep the following in mind (not always in this order): 1️⃣ Compensation - This should be a non-taboo, and obvious baseline. This has to work or I won't consider the opportunity. 2️⃣ Mission alignment - Does the organization have a mission and values I can get behind? 3️⃣ Speed of learning - Will I be able to learn a lot, quickly in this new opportunity? 4️⃣ Opportunity for impact - Will I be able to have large, scalable impact through this role? 5️⃣ Fun - Will I have fun, with good people? Anything else that you consider when you are exploring opportunities? 🤔

Nobody steps into a new role knowing everything about the job or how to do it, no matter how qualified they are. We all make mistakes, and that’s okay—no one is perfect and that’s part of the process. Expecting someone to "hit the ground running" is unrealistic. I believe in giving people opportunities and being upfront about the expectations of the role. So, don't wait until your experience perfectly matches the job requirement. You don't have to 100% match the job, companies will hire you if they believe you can learn fast and adapt to their company culture. So give it a try to apply anyway. What's your role? It's often the first question we ask. And that's the problem. Yes, companies need role definitions, but don't let them be self-imposed boundaries. They can become artificial limits we place around our potential. "That's not my job" becomes the stagnation of opportunity. Think about it: The best product managers I know? They write. The strongest engineers? They understand business strategy. Great designers? They know data analytics. Why venture beyond your role? * Short term: You spot connections others miss. You solve problems faster. * Long term: You build a unique skill stack that's hard to replicate. You create opportunities that don't exist on org charts. Next time you see an opportunity: Don't ask: "Is this my job?" Ask: "Can I add value?" Because the future belongs to the title-agnostic – those who define themselves by impact, not role. Remember: Your next career breakthrough will likely come from skills you weren't "supposed" to learn. 7/365

I thought this was the year I would become a consistent “content creator” on LinkedIn but here we are again. still trying to hack that while busy leading product development behind the scenes at Treford 😅. But I will share this advice with non-technical folks in tech looking to scale their careers by landing global roles like their technical counterparts in tech; “Don’t stop engaging with recruiters and taking interviews even when you are not actively seeking a new role”. This is the unspoken rule of the game. Nothing will accelerate your growth faster than knowing how you truly fair on the global scheme of things. It helps you know what skill gaps to fill and better ways to position yourself for opportunities. When you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready init ? 😁
