Wrote an article with my colleague Indrek Ergma discussing a significant court case that Wolt recently won in Finland regarding the classification of couriers as entrepreneurs rather than employees. The article delves into the details of the case and its implications for the gig economy and labor laws. The article itself is in Estonian, but the key takeaways are: - According to the Finnish employment legislation, an employment relationship is characterized by a contract, doing work personally, doing work for a fee, and management and supervision by the employer. -      Although the first three conditions of the employment contract were fulfilled, the fourth was not and the court came to the conclusion that Wolt couriers engaged in transport work are not employees and the law on employment contracts does not apply. -      In the Estonian court, all criteria referring to the employment relationship are considered together. However, in previous practice, the Estonian court has also said that it is the greater degree of dependence between the employee and the employer that distinguishes the employment contract from other civil law contracts. If we take into account the circumstances presented in the case of Finland, it cannot be ruled out that the Estonian court also reaches the result that the couriers doing platform work are entrepreneurs and provide services to the platform as subcontractors. #Wolt #Couriers #Entrepreneurship #LegalCase

We can't be relying solely and wholeheartedly on the goodwill of the people at FRU. As I've heard the expression "kaiViti levu na loloma lailai na dina". You must be able to negotiate before the contracts are signed. It's part of fair play which is based on the principles of fairness and justice. Then follow through as the powers, duties and responsibilities are performed. Attend to the due performance of the terms and conditions of the contract. Sports science is a discipline on its own. But contract management must be left to us who have donned a rugby jersey, put on a pair of rugby boots and understands the dynamics of rugby at professional level, with insurance involved, property, or promises not delivered, or non-disclosure clauses, sports endorsements, etc. Rugby in Viti has to develop.

Sulayem reportedly intervened and contacted FIA officials to have the penalty revoked, which supposedly led to Alonso's podium finish being reinstated a few hours later. 👇🏿 So if he’s guilty…then what?? Ben Sulayem could face disciplinary actions, including suspension or removal from his position. The specific penalties would likely be determined by the FIA's ethics committee, which is expected to issue its report in four to six weeks.
