https://lnkd.in/eV3BZpxR This article raises a crucial point. Social media has become a breeding ground for misinformation, and its rapid spread often overshadows factual reporting. The "outrageous but interesting" falsehood travels faster than corrections, leaving a distorted perception of reality. This highlights the need for increased media literacy. We need to be critical consumers of information, verifying sources and double-checking claims before sharing. Social media platforms also have a responsibility to combat misinformation, perhaps through fact-checking mechanisms or promoting reliable sources. The future of reliable news depends on addressing this challenge.

We must take the time to verify all the information before we call it news. Hence, Print media is universally regarded as more trustworthy than its digital media. Absolutely, staying vigilant and verifying the accuracy of news received through digital mediums is crucial in today's information landscape. With the proliferation of social media and online platforms, misinformation and fake news can spread rapidly, leading to confusion, polarization, and harm. The digital news cycle prioritizes breaking news, sometimes sacrificing in-depth verification for speed. This can lead to inaccurate or incomplete information being published initially. Social media algorithms tend to show us content that aligns with our existing beliefs, creating echo chambers and making it harder to encounter diverse perspectives.

The World Economic Forum defines digital trust as “the expectation by individuals that digital technologies and services – and the organisations providing them – will protect all stakeholders’ interests and uphold societal expectations and values”. In its latest white paper, Digital Trust: Supporting Individual Agency, the initiative outlines how support for individual agency and human rights and respect for individual users’ choices and values are “crucial to rebuilding trust in digital technologies.” 🕵️♀️ It advocates “individual agency by design” as a method of trustworthy development at the core of any technology strategy or regulatory approach. “In order to promote trust, important values like agency, human rights, privacy and safety must become integral to the process of designing technology at the earliest possible stage,” said Daniel Danieldobrowolski the Head of Governance and Trust at the World Economic Forum View the full report and consumer attitudes and digital trust across the world below 👇 #digitaltrust #privacybydesign

Over the past two years, I have observed the #mental state of #academics on #socialmedia. The pressures of #academia are very different from the impression, and many #researchers have to deal with the dual pressures of academia and spirit alone.
