Having completed the LinkedIn course on "Sustainability Foundations: Core Concepts," I am delighted to share my deductions. The course has provided a deeper understanding of the interdependent dimensions of sustainability. By envisioning sustainability as a three-layered wedding cake, we can better appreciate how these dimensions intertwine to support a sustainable future. ➡Environmental Sustainability This foundational layer emphasizes the importance of our natural systems, aiming to protect and restore the earth's ecosystems. Key concepts like net zero, nature-positive practices, and environmental resilience are critical here. Net zero involves balancing greenhouse gas emissions with removal efforts to stabilize the climate. Nature-positive practices focus on enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services. Environmental resilience is about strengthening our ecosystems to withstand ecological shocks. ➔ SDGs under this layer include: ➔ SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation ➔ SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy ➔ SDG 13: Climate Action ➔ SDG 14: Life Below Water ➔ SDG 15: Life on Land ➡Economic Sustainability This middle layer addresses the need for an economy that works for everyone while respecting environmental limits. Sustainable economic growth is essential for generating the resources needed to fund initiatives across all SDGs. It involves promoting innovation, sustainable industrialization, and responsible consumption and production. ➔ SDGs under this layer include: ➔ SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth ➔ SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure ➔ SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production ➡Social Sustainability The top layer focuses on ensuring that the benefits of sustainability are shared equitably among all people. This dimension aims to foster peaceful, inclusive societies where everyone has access to opportunities and resources necessary for a dignified life. It emphasizes social inclusion, education, gender equality, and health. ➔ SDGs under this layer include: ➔ SDG 1: No Poverty ➔ SDG 2: Zero Hunger ➔ SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being ➔ SDG 4: Quality Education ➔ SDG 5: Gender Equality ➔ SDG 10: Reduced Inequality ➔ SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities ➔ SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions ➔ SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals Understanding sustainability through these three dimensions helps us see how environmental, economic, and social goals are interconnected and mutually reinforcing. By aligning our efforts with these principles, we can contribute to a more resilient and equitable world. Hello connections, I am sharing about "SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS" ▪️ The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations members in 2015, created 17 world Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ▪️ The aim of these global goals is "peace and prosperity for people and the planet" while tackling climate change and working to preserve oceans and forests. ▪️ The SDGs highlight the connections between the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development. Sustainability is at the center of the SDGs, as the term sustainable development implies. ▪️ These goals are ambitious, and the reports and outcomes to date indicate a challenging path. Most, if not all, of the goals are unlikely to be met by 2030. ▪️ Rising inequalities, climate change, and biodiversity loss are topics of concerns threatening progress. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 to 2023 made these challenges worse. ▪️ The pandemic impacted all 17 goals and emphasized the interconnectedness of global health, economic, social, and environmental challenges] Some regions, such as Asia, have experienced significant setbacks during that time. ▪️ The global effort for the SDGs calls for prioritizing environmental sustainability, understanding the indivisible nature of the goals, and seeking synergies across sectors. ▪️ With regards to the political impact of the SDGs, it has been observed that they have mainly influenced global and national debates. By doing so, they have led to discursive effects for global and national debates. However, they have struggled to achieve transformative changes in policy and institutional structures. ▪️ The uneven prioritization of goals reflects longstanding national development policies. This complicates the global endeavor towards sustainable development. For example, there has long been a tendency to favor socio-economic objectives over environmental ones. ▪️ Funding remains a critical issue for achieving the SDGs. Significant financial resources would be required worldwide. The UN, other international organizations, and national governments are trying to assist with funding efforts. Furthermore, the role of private investment and a shift towards sustainable financing are also essential for realizing the SDGs. ▪️ Examples of progress from some countries demonstrate that achieving sustainable development through concerted global action is possible. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #snsdesignthinking

The United Nations #Summit of the Future action days kicks off today in New York. The two multi stakeholder action days seek to build momentum for the Summit days, during which the "Pact for the Future" will be finalized. The #youth are central to this first day and it makes sense, they are the #future. In our eco-youth program, we seek to support the youth as #nature sustainability agents, better positioned to shape ideas, innovation, challenge narratives and provide the needed hope, in the times of #climatechange and other crises.

#SDGs LESSONS FROM YESTERDAY'S FIRST CLASS 🤗 Yesterday, I had an insightful session on sustainable development led by Mr. Kayode. Here's a clear summary of what we covered: ✓• Introduction to Sustainable Development. Sustainable development means making sure we can meet our needs now without harming the ability of future generations to meet their own. It's about finding a balance between economic growth, fairness for everyone, and taking care of our environment. ✓• Evolution of Sustainable Development. We learned how the idea of sustainable development has changed over time. From early movements to protect the environment in the 19th century to the challenges brought by the industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th centuries. The United Nations also played a big role in spreading awareness about environmental issues. #CHALLENGES: Climate Change:The growing impact of climate change threatens nature and people with extreme weather and rising temperatures. Biodiversity Loss: Species are disappearing fast because of habitat destruction, pollution, and overusing resources. Resource Depletion:We're using up water, oil, and other resources faster than they can replenish, causing scarcity and harm to the environment. Social Inequality: Not everyone has the same access to education, healthcare, and opportunities, which makes it harder to achieve sustainable development. Environmental Degradation: Pollution, deforestation, and land destruction harm ecosystems and the communities that rely on them. #OPPORTUNITIES: Innovation and Technology:New inventions and technologies like clean energy and sustainable farming can help solve environmental problems. Collaboration and Partnerships:Working together with governments, businesses, and communities can lead to better ideas and solutions for sustainable development. Green Economy:Shifting towards eco-friendly practices and investing in green industries can create jobs and protect the environment. Education and Awareness:Teaching people about sustainability and raising awareness can empower individuals and communities to make positive changes. Policy and Governance: Putting in place laws and rules that support sustainability and holding people accountable for their actions can drive progress towards sustainable development. Indeed, when you are not informed, you are disadvantaged. 🤔🤦 But my Commitment to SDGs Advocacy After this session, I'm more committed than ever to advocating for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I believe that by raising awareness, taking action, and working together, we can make a real difference. I pledge to continue spreading the word about sustainability and doing my part to create a better future for all. #SDGs #Advocacy #linkedin #IamAvoice #careercoach
