Digital Literacy and Digital Equity are not just buzz words- they go hand in hand in today’s increasingly connected world. Access to technology alone is not enough; we must also empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to access technology. #digitalliteracy #digitalequity
Advocate for Adult Learning and Workforce Development | Building Strong Educational Programs and Community Partnerships
In a world increasingly driven by technology, a staggering 32 million U.S. adults face a significant barrier: they are not digitally literate. This means they lack the comfort or competence with computers necessary for everyday tasks—be it finding a recipe, making an online purchase, or filing taxes. Why does this matter? 🚀 Economic Inclusion: Digital literacy is no longer a luxury; it's a necessity. In the job market, the ability to navigate digital tools and platforms is essential. Without these skills, adults are significantly disadvantaged, limiting their employment opportunities and earning potential. 🌍 Access to Information: From health advice to government services, much of today's information is primarily accessed online. Digital literacy ensures that all individuals can seek, understand, and utilize information, empowering them to make informed decisions about their health, education, and well-being. 🛒 Consumer Empowerment: Online retail and services offer convenience and often better deals. Digital literacy enables adults to participate in this space, ensuring they can benefit from the economic and social advantages of the digital world. 🤝 Community and Connectivity: In our digital age, social connections, community engagement, and even civic participation increasingly take place online. Being digitally literate means being able to stay connected with friends and family, engage with community services, and exercise one's rights as a citizen. This Advocacy April, let's highlight the critical role of digital literacy in adult education. By addressing this gap, we can unlock opportunities, enhance employability, and ensure equitable access to information and services for all adults. Let's commit to empowering every individual with the digital skills needed to thrive in the 21st century. The time to act is now. #AdvocacyApril #DigitalLiteracy #AdultEducation Coalition on Adult Basic Education Erin Vobornik

Navigating the digital realm as parents isn't just about setting rules and limitations; it's about embracing the role of digital trailblazers for our children. It involves recognizing the potential of technology as a tool for learning, creativity, and connection while also acknowledging its pitfalls. As we embark on this journey, it's essential to equip ourselves with knowledge about the digital landscape, staying updated on trends, apps, and online safety measures. By staying informed, we can effectively guide our children through this terrain, fostering responsible digital citizenship and healthy screen habits. Moreover, being digital guides means fostering open and ongoing communication with our children about their online experiences. It's about creating a safe space for them to share their challenges, curiosities, and discoveries without fear of judgment. By actively engaging in dialogue and modeling positive digital behaviors ourselves, we can instill critical thinking skills and empathy, empowering our children to navigate the digital world with confidence and resilience. #abkidslifecoach #amitbatra #DigitalTrailblazers #TechSavvyParents #DigitalParenting #DigitalCitizenship #ScreenTimeAwareness #OnlineSafety #OpenCommunication #CriticalThinkingSkills #EmpathyBuilding #NavigatingTechTogether #ParentingInDigitalAge

🎉 This week's Media Literacy Networking Event at Ofcom's London Office is all set to be fantastically interesting. 😃I am so looking forward to hearing from my fellow panellists that I am a little anxious that I will forget to bring insights from the work Nihara Krause MBE and I have doing, with the stem4 team, on advancing media literacy ( training.stem4.org.uk ). 📲 We are convinced that health and social care professionals, and the youth sector, can make a major contribution to strengthen the media literacy and digital skills of young people, and those that care for them. ❗But this time I want to make a plea for more support for those professionals. 👩⚕️It is common for the term 'no-one is left behind' to be used in relation to digital inequalities, but demand and pressures on our public services may mean that slowly, some professionals will effectively become digitally excluded. 💡The impact of that demands serious attention, and if addressed, could support genuine progress. For all. 👇You may still be able to register, via the link in the comments below. #medialiteracy #mentalhealth #onlinesafety #development #digitalresilience

Today is #InternationalYouthDay and this year's theme is "From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development." According to the United Nations, young people are leading the charge in digital adoption and innovation, with three-quarters of those aged 15 to 24 using the internet in 2022. At the UCLA Center for the Developing Adolescent, we strive to connect those who support adolescents (ages ~10 to 25) with the resources and research they need to understand how things like technology impact young people's development. On this #InternationalYouthDay, learn what the research actually says about how digital technology affects young people and learn how technology can support healthy development: https://lnkd.in/gtbgU8M6
