KPMG Ireland has appointed Ryan McCarthy as its next managing partner. Mr McCarthy is an audit partner and will take up the role in May 2025, succeeding Seamus Hand in the post.

A recent inquiry has recommended that partnerships at the Big Four accounting firms should be capped at 400 partners. This proposal aims to enhance transparency and accountability within these large firms, which currently operate with significantly higher partner counts. For instance, Deloitte has over 1,000 partners, while EY and KPMG each have more than 7001. The inquiry suggests that any partnerships exceeding this cap should be incorporated and regulated by a new, independent watchdog.
