Evaluating #research #impact” and #academic #promotion #policy over the last few days: “First, it is hard to find experts to #assess #societal impact that is based on #peer #evaluation. Second, given that the scientific work of an #engineer has a different impact than the work of a sociologist or historian, it will hardly be possible to have a single assessment #mechanism. Third, societal impact #measurement should take into account that there is not just one model of a #successful research institution. Finally, the societal impact of research is not always going to be desirable or positive”. #commercialisation #technologytransfer #researchimpact #knowledgeexchange #innovation Bornmann, L. (2012). Measuring the societal impact of research. Research is less and less assessed on scientific impact alone-we should aim to quantify the increasingly important contributions of science to society. Science imparts lessons of inquiry, discovery, and the endless pursuit of knowledge. It instills in us a sense of curiosity and the courage to question the unknown. From nature, we absorb lessons of harmony, balance, and the cyclical patterns of life. It teaches us the value of patience, the power of resilience, and the importance of coexistence. Life's lessons are manifold, encompassing wisdom from our experiences, interactions, successes, and failures. It underscores the significance of adaptability, empathy, and the strength inherent in diversity. Each of these spheres - science, nature, and life - provides a unique perspective, enriching us with profound insights that assist us in navigating the complexities of existence. Here are some examples of lessons from science: 1. The importance of experimentation: Science teaches us the value of testing hypotheses through experiments to gather evidence and draw conclusions. 2. The power of observation: Science emphasizes the significance of keen observation skills in understanding the natural world and uncovering new knowledge. 3. The role of skepticism: Science encourages critical thinking and skepticism, urging us to question assumptions and seek empirical evidence to support claims. 4. The necessity of peer review: Science relies on peer review processes to ensure the quality and validity of research findings, highlighting the importance of collaboration and accountability. 5. The concept of falsifiability: Science emphasizes the need for hypotheses to be testable and potentially falsifiable, promoting transparency and openness in scientific inquiry. #sciencelessonsnetwork #educationalsciencelessons #scienceeducation101 #lessonsofscience #scienceeducatornetwork #learnandgrowwithscience #STEMeducationlessons #exploringsciencelessons #innovativesciencelessons #interactivescienceeducation

The Scientific Method Unlocked! As scientists, we are driven by curiosity and a relentless pursuit of knowledge. Central to our endeavors is the Scientific Method, a tried-and-true framework guiding our quest for understanding. Let's dive into its essence: Ask a Question: Every scientific exploration begins with a question a spark that ignites our curiosity and sets us on a path of inquiry. Research: Armed with the question, we delve into existing knowledge, seeking insights from past studies, literature, and data to inform our understanding. Hypothesis: With a foundation laid by research, we formulate a hypothesis a testable explanation for the phenomenon under scrutiny. Test: Rigorous experimentation is the heart of the Scientific Method. We design experiments to challenge our hypothesis, meticulously controlling variables to uncover truths. Analyze: Data in hand, we employ statistical tools and analytical techniques to distill meaning, identifying patterns and trends that shed light on our inquiry. TRUE! or FALSE!: The moment of revelation arrives. Our findings either confirm or refute our hypothesis, leading us closer to the ultimate truth. Report: Transparent communication is paramount. We disseminate our findings through scholarly publications, conferences, and discussions, contributing to the collective knowledge of humanity. The Scientific Method isn't just a sequence of steps; it's a mindset a commitment to rigorous inquiry, skepticism, and intellectual honesty. Let's continue embracing its power as we navigate the frontiers of science and unlock the mysteries of the universe. #Science #ScientificMethod #Curiosity #Research #Experimentation #Knowledge #Inquiry #Truth #Discovery #ParulUniversity #SCOPEparuluniversity #SCOPE #SCOPEparul #parulSCOPE #paruluniversitySCOPE

Science without a philosophical insight is NOT A SCIENCE! The undue pressure on researchers to bring positive results, and design experiments that would bring quick results (apparently fruitful) and publishable data, to satisfy the expectations of a funding partner, is leading to missing the scientific insight of a Ph.D. study. Its time to reconsider the track of efforts & expectations from researchers. Answering basic scientific questions, along with progress in applied techniques is the right combination, to progress towards sustainable solutions. #phd #research #science #philosophy
