When working in existing buildings we often see passive fire prevention details that will not provide the protection and reassurance expected. Here are some from a recent project: Void fire curtain, fitted with timber batten, drapped over a duct which has no damper. Similar to cable tray. Then there is the use of expanding foam around a duct and used in a linear joint. All need to be rectified to keep occupants safe in the event of fire. #fire_safety #passive_fire_protection

🔥 What is passive fire protection?🔥 Passive Fire Protection (PFP) refers to measures built into the structure of a building to prevent the spread of fire, heat, and smoke. Unlike active fire protection (like sprinklers or extinguishers), PFP works without human intervention. It includes elements like fire-resistant walls, floors, doors, and fireproof coatings, ensuring that fire remains contained and giving occupants time to evacuate safely. #Flamehold #PassiveFireProtection #SaveLives

As commercial buildings age, their infrastructure faces wear and tear that can compromise safety. Many older structures were designed to meet fire codes from decades ago, which often fall short of today’s safety standards. Upgrading these systems is not just a regulatory requirement but also a crucial step in safeguarding lives, assets, and the building itself. Read more at https://lnkd.in/gnMqQKg7 to learn why it is so important to upgrade fire protection systems in old buildings. #firelineblog #fireline #updatefireprotectionsystems #blogpost #firesafety #firelinecorp #firelinecorporation #fireprotection #fireprevention #firesystems

🔥 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 🔥 Did you know that effective fire safety relies on containing fire within compartments to protect lives and assets? By dividing buildings into fire-resistant sections, we can slow the spread of fire, ensuring safe evacuation and providing critical access for firefighters. Walls, floors, and ceilings serve as protective barriers — each rigorously tested to withstand flames and heat — helping to maintain safety until intervention arrives. Internal vs External Duct Fire Protection 🤔 What is the difference? Ventilation ducts are subject to fire stopping requirements as described in AS1668.1 and AS1530.4 Section 9. These Australian standards break down methods of protection into two categories, ‘internal fire protection’, and ‘external fire protection’. The water supply requirements for a fire sprinkler system in a 1 and 2 family home is very different than a sprinkler system protecting a large apartment building. Take a look at the blog I just wrote discussing the differences in water supply for residential occupancies. https://lnkd.in/ej9VSyWH
