Meeting Mrithika Munukoti was like finding a twin flame—both of us coming from the corporate world but sharing a profound passion for music. What made our conversation truly special was how naturally we connected on so many levels. We talked at length about how volunteering and event planning shaped our professional growth, allowing us to develop key skills like leadership, communication, and adaptability.
Our conversation went deeper into the current independent music scenario, and it was refreshing to hear how much our perspectives aligned. We discussed how independent artists today face unique challenges, from visibility to financial sustainability, and how the generational acceptance of music is changing the way people discover and consume it. There’s an increasing demand for authenticity, and we both believe that independent artists have a powerful role in this shift.
As we talked about these issues, we realized that we both aspire to become a bridge—raising awareness about the importance of independent music and helping artists apply strategies that will empower them to grow sustainably and organically.
It’s inspiring to meet someone who shares the same vision of using our professional backgrounds and passion for music to create a more inclusive and supportive ecosystem for independent artists.

Very interesting read about Iron Mountain Media and Archive Service’s experience with archived hard disks (HDD) from the 1990s and the challenge to keep data alive over time.
Significant amount of data is lost - only after 30 to 35 years, - even when stored in the best conditions by the most professional player in the industry. What data would then be left and readable after 100 years?
However, there is a solution to this significant challenge: a data storage solution that is:
· Robust and durable, - tested and qualified for 1000 years of longevity
· Self-descriptive and self-contained, i.e. all pertinent instructions, file format descriptions and source code are included
· Migration free, - write once and read forever
· Non-electronic
· Non-magnetic
· Non-hackable and inherently immutable, - data cannot be deleted or overwritten
· Immune to electromagnetic and radioactive radiation
· Immune to cyberattacks and digital threats
· Offline and off-grid
· That can be made accessible online within a short timeframe.
Further:
· No servers are required
· No electricity is needed
· The most environmentally friendly storage option, characterized by the lowest cumulative carbon footprint over time.
This storage solution already exists, - it is the piqlFilm.

The Media and Archive Services team has noticed a trend in hard drives manufactured in the '90s: close to 20% fail to spin up.
Our own Bob Koszela, Director of Global Studios Growth and Technology, sat down with Mix Magazine’s Steve Harvey to emphasize the need for the music industry to take action before it's too late.

Starting in music, I thought creating great tracks was enough, but building a career requires much more. Resources like Music Industry 101 taught me the importance of marketing, branding, and promoting my work. It’s not just about making great songs but presenting yourself as an artist with a strong identity. Learning about royalty collection organizations like IPRS and PRS was a game-changer—knowing your music can generate income every time it’s used is empowering. The music industry combines creativity with strategy, and understanding both is key to success. 🎶✨

In today's rapidly evolving landscape, there has been an increase in exposure for the works of creatives, particularly with African works. A number of people are opting for careers along these lines, as white-collar job opportunities are not growing at the same rate as the working population. Most financial services firms are also considering investment possibilities outside conventional investment services, with a keen interest in the creative sector. The challenge is how to channel investments into the sector, purposefully enough to benefit all stakeholders. For the creatives, there is also the issue of what is bankable and how to ensure their sustainability in the industry.
We are bringing together, experts in this field, to discuss the creative industry, the opportunities for investment and how it can positively contribute to economic growth.
Let's talk about it.
