We have partnered with Oracle Head & Neck Cancer UK to urge the UK Government, NHS England, Department of Health and Social Care and the Department for Education to take action to increase HPV vaccine uptake and reduce preventable cancers caused by HPV. The HPV vaccine could prevent over 100,000 cancers by 2058. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UK's HPV vaccine uptake lags shockingly behind other countries - just 56% for girls and 50% for boys, compared to 80% uptake in other countries (e.g., Denmark). This represents a critical missed opportunity to protect future generations from HPV-related cancers. The HPV vaccine is a powerful cancer prevention tool that can protect against a range of cancers - including head and neck, cervical, vulval, vaginal, anal and penile cancer. We call on the Government to: 1. Implement a national communications campaign: Develop and fund a coordinated campaign to raise awareness about the HPV vaccine as a cancer prevention tool, aimed at both parents and young people. Whilst eliminating the outdated, gendered messaging and stigma surrounding the vaccine. 2. Introduce HPV education into the curriculum: Integrate HPV and cancer prevention education into PSHE lessons from Year 6 onwards to empower young people with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their health. 3. Improve access to the vaccine: Ensure equitable access to the HPV vaccine through additional vaccination points such as pharmacies and community health centres. Pilot catch-up campaigns for older teens and young adults who missed vaccination opportunities. Streamline GP processes for GPs to special-order the HPV vaccine to reduce barriers for patients and providers. And introduce a second official vaccine invitation for young adults to encourage uptake. 4. Address health inequalities: Develop and distribute easy-read, multilingual materials to support vaccine education in diverse communities. Tailor outreach efforts to address cultural, religious, and socio-economic barriers. 5. Raise awareness of oral cancer screenings Join us and sign the petition: https://bit.ly/4gu8dqP #HPV #HPVVaccine #CancerPrevention

84% reduction in cervical cancers… One thing that anti-vaxxers cannot deny anymore… In women offered HPV vaccination at age 12 and/or 13 years, adjusted age-standardized rates of cervical cancer and CIN3 in the extended follow-up period were a respective 83.9% and 94.3% lower than in those never offered HPV vaccination. HPV vaccination averted an estimated 687 cervical cancers and 23,192 cases of CIN3 by 2020. The highest rates of averted cancer and precancerous lesions were still observed in women living in the most socioeconomically deprived areas, but the vaccination program substantially reduced rates in women at all five levels of deprivation. In women offered catch-up vaccination, rates of CIN3 fell more in the least-deprived areas than the most-deprived areas (respective reductions of 40.6% vs 29.6% and 72.8% v 67.7% for women offered vaccination at ages 16 to 18 and 14 to 16 years). "The strong downward gradient in cervical cancer incidence from high to low deprivation in the reference unvaccinated group was no longer present among those offered the vaccine," .

🌸 Prevent Cervical Cancer: Understanding Causes and the Role of Vaccination 🌸 Cervical cancer remains a significant health concern worldwide, but it's also one of the most preventable cancers with the right measures in place. 🔍 Causes: The primary cause of cervical cancer is persistent infection with high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV is a common virus transmitted through sexual contact, and while most infections resolve on their own, some can lead to cervical cancer over time. Other contributing factors include smoking, weakened immune system, long-term use of birth control pills, and having multiple sexual partners. 💉 Vaccination: The HPV vaccine is a powerful tool in the fight against cervical cancer. It protects against the most common high-risk HPV types that cause the majority of cervical cancers. The vaccine is most effective when given before individuals become sexually active, typically recommended for boys and girls aged 11-12, but can be administered up to age 26, and sometimes older based on individual risk factors. 🔗 Key Points: Early Detection: Regular Pap smears and HPV tests can detect precancerous changes early, allowing for timely treatment. Education: Raising awareness about HPV and the importance of vaccination can significantly reduce cervical cancer rates. Access: Ensuring access to vaccines and screening services is crucial, especially in low-resource settings. By understanding the causes and embracing preventive measures like vaccination, we can move closer to eradicating cervical cancer. Let’s spread the word and protect our communities! #CervicalCancerAwareness #HPVVaccine #Prevention #PublicHealth

Today at the #WorldCancerCongress, ECO Head of Policy Richard Price joined a panel on "Boys, Men, and HPV: The Case for Worldwide Gender-Neutral Vaccination", hosted by Global Action on Men's Health and NOMAN is an Island: Race to End HPV. Key insights were shared from ECO’s advocacy work through policy, data, and communications, particularly in CEE countries, and discussed the #hpvprotect campaign supporting Romania, Croatia, and Bulgaria. ECO believes success in Europe towards eliminating HPV cancers can help inspire other parts of the world to achieve the same goal by adopting gender neutral vaccination policies. We therefore enthusiastically give endorsement to today’s GAMH call for global gender-neutral vaccination.
Today, 19 September, GAMH and NOMAN is an Island: Race to End HPV are launching a new Call for global gender-neutral HPV vaccination. The call is supported by over 20 leading organisations, including the World Federation of Public Health Associations, the European Cancer Organisation, the European Association of Urology, Cancer Alliance (South Africa), and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Coalition for HPV Elimination. Several GAMH member organisations – Movember, Men’s Foundation (South Africa) and Outreach Scout Foundation (Malawi) – are also supporting the Call. The case for vaccinating young people – whatever their sex or gender – is clear. HPV can cause a wide range of cancers – cervical, anal, penile, throat and others – with an estimated 180,000 new cases in men worldwide each year. In some countries, over 30% (and in the USA, 42%) of all the HPV-related cancer cases are in men. While gender-neutral HPV vaccination has been introduced in about 70 countries, these are mostly high-income countries. Most middle- and low-income countries either have no HPV vaccination programme or vaccinate only girls. Also, most countries with vaccination programmes have uptake levels below 90%, the level at which the community as a whole is protected against HPV infection. We are therefore calling for the World Health Organisation and other international public health bodies, as well as national governments, to commit to the introduction of global gender-neutral HPV vaccination with a target vaccine uptake of 90% by 2030. The Call to Action is being launched at the World Cancer Congress in Geneva. The case for action report is available here (https://lnkd.in/eKM_tAgp) and more information about the initiative is available at a new, dedicated website (https://lnkd.in/eKbzAChY). #menshealth #HPV #cancer

💉🦠CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE.🦠 💉Cervical cancer is one of the most common female genital cancers. Cervix is the lowest part (mouth) of uterus which opens towards the upper end of vagina.🦠 💉Majority of cervical cancers(>90%) are associated with HPV (HUMAN PAPILLOMA VIRUS) infection. This virus has many serotypes and is transmitted through sexual activity. Often there are no symptoms and it may take years for someone to show signs of any precancerous and cancerous changes in cervix.🦠 💉The best time to vaccinate against this virus is before a person is sexually exposed .It can be administered as earliest as 9 years. Not only girls but it is advisable for the boys to get this vaccine also.🦠 💉There are three types of vaccines – Cervarix, Gardasil and G9. Cervarix provides protection against two types of HPV and Gardasil provides against four types of HPV. The latest development is G9 Vaccine which covers against 9 serotypes. The added advantage is the protection against genital warts, oropharyngeal and anal cancers and Penile cancer in males.🦠 💉There are 3 doses to the vaccine which are given as intramuscular injection on the upper arm at an interval of 0, 2nd, 6th month Considering that the new generation is very much open towards sexual experimentation ,early sexual exposure ,possibility of a different/new partner in a future life, increasing cases of remarriages and acceptance towards homosexuality.🦠 💉It is expected that the variants of HPV virus are going to affect new generation with a much greater impact .Therefore it is highly advisable to provide the best possible protection to our children towards. Not just cervical cancer but also towards STD’s.🦠 💉Sexuality education, creating awareness not only among girls but also among boys is of utmost importance to emphasise towards responsible &; safe sexual practises and avoiding transmission of HPV virus.🦠 💉For your own self, the guidelines allow women up-to 45 years to take the vaccine. Though the efficacy is less than 90 percent but it is worthwhile to take the vaccine based on your risk factors. You will still need regular screening with PAP smear .Discuss with your gynaecologist and go ahead with vaccination.🦠 #hpv #vaccinations #cervicalcancer #hpvinfection #gynaecologist #nashik

The EAU is in full support of the global call for gender neutral HPV vaccination. As urologists, we treat men who are impacted by HPV related urological cancers, such as penile cancer and, as such, we know the unnecessary damage caused to lives of patients and their families. Vaccination is a tool that helps to protect boys and men from this harm, and also to protect girls and women too. From our perspective, vaccination targeted at boys, men, girls and women not only promotes better health outcomes for everyone, but is also a demonstration of a truly equitable approach to healthcare. You can learn more about the call here: https://lnkd.in/eKM_tAgp And you can join the campaign to End HPV here: https://lnkd.in/eKbzAChY

Focusing on communicating the HPV vaccine’s cervical cancer benefits increases the stigma that HPV is a female disease and places the blame and burden of the issue on females when both genders could benefit (from immunisation against HPV). Many communities have skepticism and hesitancy on why the vaccine is only for girls and not boys. Targeting HPV vaccine to both genders before sexual exposure also increases the likelihood of reducing HPV hesitancy and increasing vaccine uptake within the community and there is support for this approach among health workers. In settings where the coverage of female vaccination is less than 75%, gender neutral vaccination strategies prove cost-effective by rapidly building herd immunity for boys and indirectly protecting those who are unvaccinated. https://buff.ly/3zZvYav #HPV #EndHPVGlobal #cancer #publichealth
