GREEN BONDS: FINANCING A GREENER TOMORROW Green bonds are a type of debt issued by public or private institutions to finance themselves and, unlike other credit instruments, they commit the use of the funds obtained to an environmental project or one related to climate change. Green bonds may have tax incentives that make them more attractive to investors. The phrase “green bond” is sometimes used interchangeably with “climate bonds” or “sustainable bonds.” However, these are not synonyms. Role and Importance: 1.Addressing Climate Change: India is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change. Green bonds help mobilize capital for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate impacts. 2.Economic Growth and Job Creation: Investments in green projects can stimulate economic growth and create jobs, especially in the renewable energy sector. This contributes to sustainable economic development. 3.Attracting Environmentally Conscious Investors: Green bonds attract investors who are keen on supporting sustainable and environmentally friendly projects. This can diversify and expand the investor base. 4.Supporting Sustainable Development: They fund projects that contribute to sustainable development, including energy efficiency, pollution prevention, waste management, and sustainable agriculture. 5.Funding for Renewable Energy Projects: Green bonds are primarily used to raise capital for renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, and hydroelectric power. These projects are crucial for India’s commitment to increasing its renewable energy capacity. #greenbonds #sustainable #development #renewable #energy #debt #environmentfriendly #investor #climatechange #solarenergy #economicgrowth

⚡Last week, I had a conversation with Eng Michael Sakala, a key figure in Zambia's push for clean energy and eMobility. As we talked, it felt like diving into a story of challenges and hopes. 💰 We discussed the barriers in policies and funding, painting a picture of a country at a turning point. With just 94 electric two-wheelers on the roads by the end of 2023, it seemed like e-mobility was just beginning to tiptoe in. 🚌But the dream of electric buses promised something bigger. However, the green economy struggled to thrive, tangled in the lack of clear policies. 🏭Once a powerhouse, the Kariba Dam now suffers as water levels drop, a victim of changing climate. However, the country still has more power since it exports to its neighbors 💨🌑 With charcoal smoke clouding even in schools and hospitals, the government's focus on the past leaves Zambia's energy future hanging in uncertainty. Should we say slow governments are keeping us on the wait? #Strategies can take a decade or more to bear fruit, thus making stable #funding a huge boon to diversification efforts. Funding should not only be made available for #clean #energy #projects. Our analysis shows that communities across the #UnitedStates and #India aspire to diversify into sectors ranging from #tourism to #food products. Activities destined to help coal-reliant communities should involve programming or funding that is guaranteed over longer periods, in order to help foster stability in the community’s transition efforts. Read this insightful article by our Partner Akshay Jaitly and Ajay Shah of XKDR Forum in Business Standard on the need for a streamlined approach within the Union Government to India's energy transition. The article draws lessons from Indian administrative practice and international examples to suggest a more coherent path to address the issue of climate change.. Had a good panel discussion on Carbon Markets, organized by Climate Collective We would like to add: #CarbonMarket in #India is very nascent, specially for small / marginal communities. Consider, #DRE is not only meant for #DecentralizedRenewableEnergy, but it also means #DecentralizedRuralEconomy. The Govt should encourage & facilitate the DRE model of #EnergyAccess Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) | NITI AAYOG Subrata Chakrabarty | Jasmeet Singh Bajaj | Shuchi Malhotra | Poulomy Banerjee | Pratap Raju | Nalin Agarwal | Ashwati Ramesh | Pooja H Jain | Hemant Sundar | Shristi Singhania P.S.
