Drupal 7 has been a stable and widely adopted platform for over a decade. However, as of January 2025, it will officially reach its end-of-life (EOL). While many organisations have delayed upgrading to Drupal 10 or 11, continuing to maintain Drupal 7 after EOL comes with hidden costs that can outweigh the perceived savings. While it may seem cost-effective in the short term to continue running D7 after its end-of-life, the hidden costs associated with security risks, operational complexity, regulatory compliance, and technical debt can quickly add up. Beyond direct financial costs, there are significant risks to an organisation's reputation, security, and long-term viability. In the long run, migrating to a newer version of Drupal will offer better security, performance, and innovation opportunities, making it a more cost-effective and future-proof strategy. #drupal #drupal7 #drupal7eof #webdevelopment #digitalexperience
