During #ClimateWeek2024, WEDO was thrilled to join The Shine Collab, MADRE, Ford Foundation and the Wallace Global Fund to host a dialogue among donors, advocates and movement leaders from across the gender, climate, human rights and development sectors. Together, we dove into powerful case studies — from Zimbabwe, South Africa, India and the US — and power-centered policy analysis, exploring the challenges and opportunities for delivering a transformational just energy transition. In this context, philanthropy must play a pivotal role by partnering with communities and advocates, advancing people-centered, rights-based, and systems-change approaches. As top-down technological solutions, often accompanied by displacement and destruction, remain the status quo, we must instead pursue a gender-just transition—one that literally and democratically puts power in the hands of the people.
