During #ClimateWeek2024, WEDO was thrilled to join The Shine Collab, MADRE, Ford Foundation and the Wallace Global Fund to host a dialogue among donors, advocates and movement leaders from across the gender, climate, human rights and development sectors. Together, we dove into powerful case studies — from Zimbabwe, South Africa, India and the US — and power-centered policy analysis, exploring the challenges and opportunities for delivering a transformational just energy transition. In this context, philanthropy must play a pivotal role by partnering with communities and advocates, advancing people-centered, rights-based, and systems-change approaches. As top-down technological solutions, often accompanied by displacement and destruction, remain the status quo, we must instead pursue a gender-just transition—one that literally and democratically puts power in the hands of the people. As we continue the conversation and collaboration across donors, advocates, activists, and practitioners around a #GenderJustEnergyTransition, we invite you to share your current work and priorities in this follow-up survey: https://lnkd.in/ejYzCbQX We are eager to think together about upcoming opportunities for generating resources, sharing knowledge and experience, and working across movement spaces and organizations after this powerful event. #FeministClimateJustice #ClimateJustice #GenderJustice #ClimateChange #JustTransition

So true! We need more support for youth-led nonprofits like Climate Cardinals. Youth-led organizations bring so much to this movement. They deserve our trust and support - be it financial, in mentorship, or in increased visibility. #supportyouthledclimatework #youngactivists #climatechange
Executive Director at Climate Cardinals | UNESCO Youth Climate Action Network Steering Committee l WHO Youth Council
🚨No movement can afford to burn out its most ardent supporters, and yet, the #climatemovement risks doing so That's why Sophia Suganuma, Sophia Kianni, and I co-wrote an op-ed on behalf of Climate Cardinals for Teen Vogue, highlighting the critical need to fund youth-led #climate groups properly 🌍 Our activism is only #sustainable if it is adequately supported. Beyond moral support, we need financial and institutional backing that matches the scale and intensity of the efforts put forth by #youngactivists ❗ The problem is that right now, the numbers don’t match the rhetoric. Despite being at the forefront of the movement, #youth-led organizations receive only 0.76% of global funding from the largest climate #foundations ☀ To truly make a lasting impact, youth-led organizations need financial investment. Look at what we have done on our own. Now, imagine the possibilities if we had the full support of #philanthropists, governments, and corporations committed to genuine change Read more at https://lnkd.in/ep4uHHcU #ClimateChange #YouthActivism #EnvironmentalJustice March On Foundation Connect4Climate

When it comes to action for #climatechange, the goal isn’t perfection. Perfection isn’t #sustainable. There are times when our actions may not be what is best for the #environment. The goal is working consistently to build #community with others to create change, both individually and collectively. Engaging in conversation to share information. Volunteering. Using the power of our vote. Believing the science. Being hopeful. Staying in action. Everyone can make a difference. Especially when we work together. 💚 #TheCarbonAlmanac #FactsConnectionAction

"Just as nations discuss the responses to the climate crisis in terms of mitigation, adaptation and loss and damage, businesses need to address the climate crisis from multiple angles too... We advocate for placing climate resilience and community empowerment at the heart of corporate giving; enabling local leaders and existing charities with the direct experience of an area to determine the best course of action." Wise words from the CEO of GlobalGiving UK, Alex Ritchie! Read about how local leaders in the GlobalGiving community are building resilience ahead of crisis in Alex's great piece in the Green Business Journal.
Alex Ritchie, UK Chief Executive of GlobalGiving UK, argues the case for a climate resilience approach to corporate philanthropy. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQrmr8ZV

Community-level initiatives are crucial for driving the global change we urgently need - especially in the fight against climate change. For philanthropists, this is a call to action. Supporting local organizations empowers communities to lead with solutions that are culturally relevant, innovative, and sustainable. Investing in grassroots efforts not only addresses the immediate impacts of climate change but also strengthens communities to adapt and thrive in the long term. Now is the time to think globally and act locally. Let’s focus our resources where they can create the most profound impact - on the ground, where deep-rooted, context-specific solutions take shape. Why should climate resilience be the cornerstone of corporate philanthropy? With ongoing geopolitical crises and increasing climate shocks, the need for aid that addresses root causes and fosters long-term change is more urgent than ever. As featured in Green Business Journal, our CEO Alex Ritchie makes a compelling case for integrating climate resilience into corporate philanthropy. Key points to consider: 🔹 Climate change exacerbates inequalities and disproportionately affects certain groups, such as women and children 🔹 Only 2% of international humanitarian assistance reaches local changemakers—it's crucial to empower these local experts who understand local challenges 🔹 Businesses can support truly impactful change by considering community climate resilience in corporate giving strategies By supporting local leaders and organisations, companies can help to build stronger, more adaptable communities https://lnkd.in/eadFa3rE #ClimateResilience #CorporatePhilanthropy #CommunityLed #SustainableImpact #CSR
