What is your sales method? Your system? Your process? You have to have one because sales is the life blood of your business. Here is a highly effective process you can use. Firstly it is important to understand sales. Sales is scientific. Like all other business skills it can be learned. It is not sleazy, slimy, underhanded. If your product / service has true value, you are helping people make a good choice. Don’t be scared of being told no. Embrace the fear, rejection, knock backs and bruised ego. Get comfortable with it because the more it happens the more sales you will get. Understand the process. Sales it the game. The only way for your business to grow and increase profit is to get more sales. When selling think of yourself as a Doctor. View the sales as a logical and well thought out sequential process. In your mind position yourself as a helper. This will take the pressure off of you and the pressure off your customer too. In the sales process you are like a Doctor. Examine the patient, make a diagnosis and then prescribe the treatment. The sales process mirrors this. Too many people jump straight to the prescription without any questions, any examination or diagnosis. Imagine your Dr did this! So why do so many people try to sell in such an illogical way? If I were new to any industry, I would double down on being selflessly resourceful with prospects. It costs really nothing, other than your time which in the beginning is super abundant. You get to network with people in your industry. The customer wins big and you make such a solid impression with them. The harder it is, the more you stand out and the more they win. And your resourcefulness compounds. If a or a prospect brings me a problem today, it takes only about 1/10 the time to find them an outside solution compared to at the beginning. I'm thinking about this as we are working on a project today that will bring in $2 million plus in annual revenue, provide the base revenue for great jobs for about 5 full time people, and a strong partnership for years to come. That all started about 7-8 years ago working on a project for them for little to no immediate return and continuing to help and solve problems for them. Costs nothing, and it's extremely rare to see people do this consistently. Be rare, be resourceful. #businessdevelopment #entrepreneurship #sales #cpgindustry
