An actuary is a professional who uses mathematics, statistics, and financial theory to assess and manage risk, particularly in the insurance and finance industries. Actuaries analyze data to evaluate the likelihood of future events, design creative ways to reduce the likelihood of undesirable events, and minimize the impact of those that do occur. Their work often involves creating models to predict the financial costs of uncertain events, such as accidents, natural disasters, and death. They play a crucial role in developing insurance policies, pension plans, and other financial strategies, ensuring that companies and organizations can financially withstand potential risks. Actuaries must pass a series of rigorous exams to become fully credentialed in their field.
