I hear these questions all of the time from job seekers ▶ "How do I stand out?" or "I apply to speak to a recruiter, and they submit me, but then nothing happens. What can I do to stop this cycle?" While tailoring your resume and portfolio is necessary, especially with so many ATS systems that will eliminate you from the application process if you don't do this, I think we can get more creative, especially if you are making it past the initial application process and meeting with a recruiter. I've been seeing a trend lately and it is WORKING! Are you ready for it? 🥁 🥁 🥁 VIDEO❗❗ ❗ You can utilize video to create: 📹 an elevator pitch 📹 a quick walk-through of a specific project or initiative you worked on that correlates with the role you are applying to TIP 💡 If you're not comfortable speaking to the camera, do a screen record and a voiceover! This one hurt. Got contacted by a recruiter for a really interesting content role about a potential rebrand. I had 1 missing skill and a year less experience than they were looking for but what the heck, lets submit and see what happens. 1 week later I get a call for a first round interview. Goes pretty well, maybe not the best represenation that I could have given of myself but not the worst. 5 days later, recruiter calls me and says that I'm labelled a top applicant and they want to do a 2nd round interview. WOW! Didn't see that coming, but hey this is great. Recruiter tells me they want me to do a presentation about a possible rebrand and how I would go about it. Sounds good, I thrive in visuals and social marketing. Interview happens, goes really well! Interviewers loved my ideas and said I did a very comprehensive and thorough roadmap of where the rebrand should start and end. Gets told after interview by recruiter that they loved me and are planning to set up a last interview with a director just for formalities sake. 1 week goes by, radio silence. 2 weeks, still nothing. I finally call the recruiter and ask, "Hey did they ever want to schedule that interview?" Recruiter tells me, "Oh sorry, I meant to call you, they sent an offer to the other person." 1 whole month of my life down the drain just to lose the role and get ghosted by a recruiter who couldn't be bothered to let me know. I'm trying to shake it off, but man I'm upset right now. #contentmanager #contentspecialist #contentcurator #socialmediajob #socialmediamarketing

So, I had an interview for a social media gig today, and things took a surprising turn. Stick with me… They reached out on short notice for a quick 15-minute call. No big deal—I hopped on, camera off, ready for a productive conversation. The interviewer? Camera off as well. After a quick greeting, she says, "Why isn't your camera on?" I explained that with such short notice, I wasn’t at my work desk and didn’t expect a video call, but I'd be more than happy to turn it on next time. She responded with, "Ah, okay." Then came the curveball: "We don't work with individuals we can't see. We hope we work with you in the future. Buh-bye." ...While her camera stayed off. It left me wondering: how do we define professionalism? Is it based on real skills, adaptability, and communication — or just the optics of being “camera-ready” at all times?
