Check out our 𝐧𝐞𝐰 paper titled “ Enhancing Acquisition Outcomes through Leveraging of Artificial Intelligence” published through MITRE. The overarching goal of this paper is to demystify AI for the Federal Acquisition community, highlighting potential acquisition applications and defining tangible recommendations to consider. It does so by showcasing existing and near-term applications that will affect the community’s work, highlighting potential threats to help acquisition professionals make risk-informed decisions, and offering practical recommendations to ensure responsible and strategic integration of AI into acquisition processes. 🤔 Why? Acquisition professionals should not think only about how to acquire AI but also about how to integrate it within the Federal Acquisition workflow. They must work towards this future state now to adopt AI at the speed of relevance and maintain America’s strategic advantage. Following the release of Partnership on AI's policy report on interoperability, I moderated a panel on how and if we should aim for global consensus on AI governance at World Summit AI.  Thank you to my fellow panelists Anne McCormick, Nabiha Syed, Petri Myllymäki, Bart BECKS, and Paul Brook for a lively discussion focused on ensuring that international AI governance initiatives are inclusive, rights-preserving, build on sector-specific approaches, and are founded in science and evidence. PAI's recent report underscores the need for transparency to achieve these aims by analyzing the disclosure requirements of eight leading policy frameworks. Grateful for the leadership of Stephanie Ifayemi and John Howell, as well as PAI’s Policy Steering Committee and working group participants who brought this research to life. The UK's delicate industrial strategy balancing act: our service industry must embrace GenAI, but the risk is that we hand our future to US BigTech. My article in Bright Blue's new collection of essays on the impact of Generative AI, alongside such luminaries as Kenneth Cukier Rose Luckin Gerard Grech Tom Watson. "It is easy to be cynical about endless promises surrounding the transformative potential of AI. However, even if the current break-neck pace of technological development were to slow down, we are already seeing the first stirrings of a productivity revolution, especially in the services industry. This matters because the UK is the second-biggest exporter of services in the world, and, at present, we face a conundrum. If we do not embrace the AI opportunity, then we risk falling behind and losing our competitive edge. But, if we do fully embrace AI, we risk handing the keys to our economy over to the US tech giants on whose AI platforms our technological future depends." Let's hope that the next Government has the bandwidth and vision to focus on both aspects of this challenge. It's essential for policymakers to define sector-specific policy objectives and ensure that regulations are tailored to the unique risks and needs of each sector, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. As we navigate this complex terrain, it's clear that a thoughtful and balanced regulatory approach is vital to harnessing the full potential of AI while maintaining public trust and safety. The future of AI regulation will likely involve a delicate balance between fostering innovation and addressing legitimate concerns, and it's up to us as leaders to ensure that our policies are both effective and forward-thinking. The UN General Assembly adopted a significant resolution on promoting “safe, secure, and trustworthy” artificial intelligence (AI) systems for sustainable development. Led by the United States, the resolution emphasizes human rights protection in AI design, development, and deployment. Co-sponsored by over 120 Member States, it recognizes AI's potential to advance the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This marks the Assembly's first resolution on regulating AI. The resolution urges refraining from AI systems violating human rights and calls for inclusive digital access to bridge the global digital divide. It is an honour to accept, attend, and deliver arguments in the event created by The Brookings Institution on the AI Governance trends. This event invited speakers around the world. I had an honor to deliver responses on the presentation of Estela Aranha from the UN High-Level Advisory Body on AI. We discovered some overlooked issues on the Global AI Governance such as: 1. How do the International Trade Agreements address the flow of AI products? 2. What should the UN do next? Creating an AI Convention? Establishing an AI Body? 3. How does the global governance rebalance the asymmetrical position between Global North and Global South? More questions than answers, but we should keep initiating efforts to create a proper global governance for AI. #artificialintelligence #globalgovernance
