Does your department PT program coincide with the academy workload? One of the main pitfalls with academy training programs is that the morning PT sessions are focused on difficulty or intensity without consideration of the workload volume on the drill grounds. Having a structured program in place that supports the skills taught and physical demands can have a significant impact on recruit success. Aurora Fire Rescue Class 24-01 is now in Week 4 of their full academy (after an 8-Week EMS program) and learning how to continue their training efforts with the increased workload.

Building off the 8 week preparatory phase, recruits are learning how to continue their training efforts with increased workload of the academy. This session focused on upper body horizontal push/pull, thoracic rotation, sagittal plane trunk stability and alactic power intervals.
