In light of World Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Day, I would like to share about the impact of #toxic stress in a child’s youth. Common adverse #childhood experiences children in #Singapore face are witnessing community violence, being bullied, physical abuse, amongst other factors. Health experts have found that extreme psychological #stress overwhelms a child’s internal capacity and inner resources to cope, and that toxic stress affects the brain’s developing structure—which means that it has lasting effects on their future. Studies show that the brains of maltreated children were affected in the areas that dealt with emotions, memory, cognitive abilities, decision-making and self-regulation. As #parents, #teachers, #leaders, or simply an adult that is involved in a child’s life, we should be hyper aware of this vulnerable stage in a child’s life and how toxic stress can change everything for them. Cyber bullying, cancel culture in schools, and stress at home are things we should watch out for and try to prevent by any means possible. The ramifications are literally life changing. What happens to the child who grows up with chronically angry parents? When a child is constantly exposed to anger at home, they may develop anxious attachment. This means they might struggle with trust and often worry about being abandoned or not being good enough in their relationships. Many might become people pleasers, striving to avoid conflict and seeking approval, which can negatively impact their personal and professional lives. Emotional challenges such as binge eating and poor emotion regulation are common, often resulting in issues like low self-esteem and an inability to cope with stress healthily. In the Jewish community, where family and relationships are highly valued, these struggles can create significant barriers to achieving a sense of belonging and stability. Let's talk about- "Why do there is an increase in aggression among children now a days, it's types and preventive measures"? Aggression is an action or threat of action that is intended to harm another person, either physically or psychologically. It is an important social issue among children. Children and youth who behave aggressively may harm not only themselves, but also their families, their communities and society at large. Studies shows us children with serious aggression problems are more likely to develop other mental health or problematic substance use issues—and as adults they are more likely to engage in acts of violence. Types Of Aggression- - poking, pinching, pushing, shoving, spitting, tripping, hitting, kicking, throwing things and beatings. - aggressive response to frustration, teasing or threats. etc.. Preventive Measures- - Be encouraging. - Offer praise for positive behaviours. - Manage problems as they arise. - Address small problems before they turn into bigger ones. - Set out clear expectations; let young people know how you expect them to behave. #childbehavior #parenting #positiveparenting #parentingtips #mentalhealth #childdevelopment #parentingcoach #teenmentalhealth #adhd #behaviortherapy #childmentalhealth #childtherapy #childpsychology #familytherapy #children #childtherapist #autism #mentalhealthawareness #behaviormanagement #behavior #anxiety #depression #childdepression #teentherapy #therapyforwomen #childanxiety #teenbehavior # #appliedbehavioranalysis #perfectionism #mindfulparenting #redcross #icmr #unitedkingdom #usa #canada #europe #germany #unicef #unicefindia #trending #articlewriting #cambridgeuniversity #worldhealthorganization #worldbank #india #world #cambridgeuniversity #harvarduniversity #sheffielduniversity #edinburghuniversity #planinternational #linkedin #linkedinlearning #astonuniversity #stanforduniversity #linkedinconnections Childhelp®National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)

According to World Health Organization One in six people are aged 10–19 years. Adolescence is a unique and formative time. Domestic violence (DV) significantly impacts children in various ways, including: Difficulty managing emotions and internal states; Changes in attention, consciousness, and self-perception; Poor coping mechanisms such as substance abuse and antisocial behaviors; Developing eating disorders, sleep problems, constant body pains & headaches; Reduced conflict tolerance, heightened attachment issues, relationship problems, and avoidance of issues as they mature; Increased likelihood of anger problems and violent behavior; Feelings of shame, difficulty in making friends, and trust issues; Academic challenges; Higher risks of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. If you're experiencing domestic violence & don't have children, think carefully about the impact of having kids —it can worsen legal, financial, and mental challenges. If you do have kids, please seek help for their mental health. Staying in a relationship for the children isn't always advisable. #domesticviolence #familyviolence #childabuse #counsellorshalina #shalinalodhia #financialabuse #coercivecontrol #dv #mentalhealth #childrensmentalhealth

How can we lead a normal life as if nothing happened?? Does family upbringing play a significant role in creating anti-social behavior? Yes, it does play a crucial role in shaping an individual's behavior to a large extent, including tendencies toward anti-social actions. While bad parenting can contribute to such behavior, it's important to recognize that it's not the sole factor. Social influences, peer pressure, and untreated psychological issues can also lead to destructive actions, as seen in tragic cases like the heinous crime against Dr. Moumita in Calcutta. The lessons we can learn: - Early intervention in cases of poor parenting and trauma is crucial. - Education and open discussions about respect, empathy, and consent are essential. - Mental health support should be accessible and normalized. - Communities must take responsibility for shaping positive social norms. - It's important to speak out rather than stay silent when atrocities occur, especially within the home. Preventing such acts requires a collective effort from families, communities, and society at large. #mentalhealth #socialresponsibility #education #communitysupport #justiceformoumita #familyfirst

My son is 15 years old and essentially represents the first #generation to grow up with mobile devices—the first #iPad was launched just six months after he was born. As a #parent, I've firsthand seen how addictive these devices and their endless supply of entertainment can be for #children and #teenagers. Now, there is also #evidence showing a direct link between the rising rates of teenagers' declining mental health and their use of mobile devices and social media especially. Jonathan #Haidt, a social psychologist from the New York University Stern School of Business, ignited a discussion about the research-proven link between the rise in adolescents' declining mental health and the increase in social media use. It has been puzzling to follow this discussion as I have listened to many podcasts where educated adults dismiss the research. They suggest we should not worry so much about teenagers' use of social media, yet in the same breath, they talk about how strictly they limit their own children’s use of mobile phones! After reading Haidt's article in The Atlantic Monthly, I started digging deeper into the topic and discovered also how play is linked to the same theme. Researchers discuss how #play might be the most effective way to overcome childhood #anxiety and build social, emotional, and physical competencies. During play, children and adolescents take age-appropriate risks and often fail—in environments where failure is not very costly. This process is vital for them to extend their abilities, overcome fears, learn to estimate risk, and develop cooperation skills to tackle bigger challenges later on. I wrote an article about the topics above, you can read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/d6E2yAGR #mentalhealth #wellbeing #children #jonathanhaidt #anxiety #usa #singapore #global #challenge
The decline in the #mental #health of #children and teenagers is an extremely concerning trend worldwide, prompting action not only from parents and educators but also from nations like Singapore. What is driving this trend, and how can we reverse it? Leading psychologists from the USA, Jonathan #Haidt and John Gray, highlight research that shows a clear link between declining mental health, the rise of social media, and the lack of free #play. Researchers discuss how play might be the most effective type for overcoming childhood anxieties and building social, emotional, and physical competencies. During play, children and adolescents must take age-appropriate risks and fail—often—in environments where failure is not very costly. This process is vital for them to extend their abilities, overcome fears, learn to estimate risk, and learn cooperation to tackle bigger challenges later on. In our latest blog post, read more about the global #research on children’s mental health and what leading researchers and psychologists are saying about play and how it should be reintegrated into children's lives.
