Whether you're a fan of Lewis Hamilton or not, his win on Sunday at Silverstone commands respect. It was a refreshing change from the usual Max Verstappen dominance!
To me, this race was more than just a former champion clocking the fastest time or a Brit winning on home turf. This is about someone who could have easily given up. Lewis Hamilton waited 2.5 years to win an F1 race. With a joint-record seven Formula One World Drivers’ Championship titles (tied with Schumacher), he could have—some say should have—won his eighth in Saudi Arabia in 2021 if not for the controversial outcome that saw Max clinch the title.
Sunday's race was emotional for me. It marked Lewis’ final Silverstone race with the Mercedes team. His team. With Bono by his side. This win was a massive confidence booster for Lewis. A reminder that he is more than capable, that he can believe in himself, that he still has it. Despite not having the best car, with his extensive racing experience, knowledge of Silverstone, strategic acumen, and ability to adapt to the weather, he won.
What does this teach me? As someone working in a fast-paced environment with constant changes, shifting goals, and occasional setbacks, it’s a powerful lesson. Even when leaving a meeting feeling like I didn’t deliver despite my best efforts, it teaches me—and all of us—that we must keep showing up. Keep working hard, believing in ourselves, and not lowering our efforts. Show up, work your strategy, and collaborate with your team. Then, like a perfect storm, your knowledge, ability, and strength will come together, enabling you to leave that room better than when you entered.
