𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗘, 𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘, 𝗗𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗗𝗦 𝗔 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘 We throw around terms like 𝘱𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺, 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨, but as Geraldine Moodley says: "𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬." Trauma gets stuck in our bodies, and that’s also where the path to healing lies. Sometimes, it even means crying it out. And yet, what do we often hear? “Control your emotions!” “Regulate yourself!” Sure, but what’s really behind those emotions? What 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘮𝘢 or systemic betrayal are we ignoring? At one of my old jobs, I heard it all: “Walked to work 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯?” “Weird breathing exercises at lunch?” Or comments like: “Noise-canceling headphones? 𝘚𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪-𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭.” “Eating 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 lunch?” “Staring out the window 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩?” But seriously, what if we took more breaks? Built in time to actually breathe? Worst case: 𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘵. 𝘓𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘴. 𝘓𝘦𝘵’𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘥𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴. Prioritizing Self-Care: A Vital Message for Professionals In a world where deadlines and commitments often consume our days, it's easy to overlook the most crucial aspect of our lives: ourselves. If you were to ask me for the single best advice I could offer to fellow professionals, especially those tied to the 9-5 office grind, I'd say this - carve out time for yourself, and make exercise a non-negotiable part of your routine. It doesn't have to be elaborate or intense from the get-go. Start with something as simple and gentle as a walk, and gradually ramp up the intensity as your body adapts. The key is consistency and progression. Why? Because amidst the demands of work and life, caring for your body should be your utmost priority. It's not just about physical health; it's about mental clarity, emotional well-being, and overall productivity. So, to all my LinkedIn connections immersed in the hustle and bustle of professional life, I urge you - don't neglect yourselves. Schedule that workout, take that walk, and make self-care a non-negotiable part of your daily agenda. Your body and mind will thank you for it. #SelfCare #WorkLifeBalance #PrioritizeHealth #WellnessAtWork
