Key insights from recent data reveal: American startups command a remarkable 71 cents of every dollar invested in global AI equity funding, underscoring their leading role in this frontier. The concentration of AI expertise is significant, with over 40% of the world's AI companies based in the U.S., highlighting the nation's dominance in talent acquisition. This talent pool drives innovation, with many companies partnering with top universities and research institutions to foster development. However, this leads to an emerging innovation gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world. China is not far behind, actively trying to close the gap with its own advancements in AI technology. The Chinese government has heavily invested in AI initiatives, aiming to become a global leader by 2030. Current reports indicate that China accounted for approximately 27% of global AI funding last year, displaying a growing capacity to compete. We saw AI take center stage, reshaping workflows and sparking important conversations about its ethical implications. At the same time, green tech became a bigger focus, with energy-efficient systems and sustainable practices gaining real momentum. Looking ahead to 2025, here are a few trends I’m keeping an eye on: ✨ AI Everywhere: We’ll continue to see automation grow, and the demand for engineers who specialize in AI tools will rise. Along with that, I expect more regulatory attention to shape how AI is used and innovated. ✨ Biotech & HealthTech: Personalised medicine, fuelled by AI and genomics, is set to make real strides. ✨ Startups & Unicorns: With continued EU support and growing VC interest, we’ll see more purpose-driven startups, especially in sectors like climate, healthcare, and education. ✨ Hybrid Work: Hybrid work is here to stay, but it’s evolving. If companies are pushing return-to-office policies, they’ll need to offer something truly special. Flexibility is no longer a perk, it’s expected.
