In this fragmented world, ancient religious traditions re-emerge and intersect with modernity; faiths may anchor people amidst their uncertainties, but they can also reignite combative, tribal instincts. That's why the ‘Shared Space’ seeks to develop a better understanding of the principles and practices that sustain plural spaces of encounter. These encounters are fundamental for drawing together different religious ways of thinking and being that lay the foundations for a robust civil society. Through building bridges across faiths, communities, countries and sectors we foster collaborations for inclusive dialogue that generate practical solutions. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱? A lot actually. Interestingly, the influence of Christianity has permeated our culture so pervasively that most of us take its benefits for granted. We assume, in an ethnocentric-type way, that the goods we have in the West are enjoyed and appreciated by all. They are not. In this short article, Paul Herrick unpacks just three benefits that many of us take for granted (I know I used to!): -𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, -𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀, -𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 None of these are insignificant. As we see the world around us starting to change, we are seeing these three elements being attacked in various ways. This has caused many, including non-Christians to recognize what it was that grounded them. One example is the agnostic Tom Holland, author of 𝘋𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯. Concerning the teachings of the New Testament, he writes: “𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆, 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘄, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀. 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹. 𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸, 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱.” Let these be things that make us think deeper about our culture, deeper about Christianity, and cause us to have greater gratitude for the things we often take for granted. #Christianity #Peace #Love #Wisdom #Accountability https://lnkd.in/e9kbijVT

A superb article from Stewardship, highlighting the strong connection between faith and generosity. Although Christian-centric, I suspect that it translates to other religions too. It's about "walking the talk", and being authentic, bringing to the forefront the difference between culture and faith (ie. non-practicing and practicing). As traditional religious institutions face challenges, including declining attendance, a remarkable shift is underway. According to Pew Research Center, 41% of Americans have grown more spiritual over their lifetimes, while only 24% say they’ve become more religious. This shift, especially among younger generations, reflects a move toward personalized and often digitally-assisted spiritual practices. Explore how places like St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York have adapted to these changes and what it means for the future of spirituality in America. 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e2Gqcw2z

In summary, recognizing the complexities within religious traditions—particularly Islam—allows for a deeper appreciation of their contributions to knowledge and ethical living. My perspective invites dialogue about how societies can navigate modernity while honoring their spiritual heritage, ultimately promoting a more inclusive understanding of faith in contemporary discourse.
