HOARDING/ACCUMULATING Messages are everywhere that the things we own give us value. When people have a history of trauma, depression, anxiety, abuse, or neglect, it makes sense they would feel attached to the things they own, have difficulty parting with their possessions, and accumulate more stuff. While often a hidden and misunderstood behavior, research shows that hoarding is more common than previously believed, affecting between 2 to 6 percent of people. When the number of things you have becomes unmanageable, it is important to find effective help. Kathy helps us build empathy and understanding for ourselves and others who may face this issue. PART 1/3 In this Live we discussed trauma work with body-centered therapy. You will learn: 1. Why grounding techniques are the first step to healing trauma. 2. Why trauma leaves us in a hypervigilant state, not allowing us to trust our bodies. 3. What you can do when the mainstream techniques don't work for you. Thanks again to Dr Khashayar Pazooki from Group Psylux for this inspiring and informative conversation. If you have any questions, dont be shy, write them in the comments. We will meet again next Wednesday at 8PM to deepen the conversation on how to deal with intrusive thoughts and difficult emotions after trauma.

Mark Reddy M.Sc. Mental Health and Welfare Advocate Emergency/Frontline Services. Qualified Psychotherapist, Psychologist. Mediation, Advocacy & Therapeutic Consultancy
Shockingly dangerous to see some with no supervised experience, accredited qualification and little understanding promoting treatments for trauma! yet crumble when faced with the most simplistic responses to their posts! Trauma (the clue is in the name!!) typically requires evidence-based, validated therapeutic approaches, rather than relying on and pushing with vigor alternative practices like crystal healing, walking in clay etc!! While holistic approaches may offer some benefits to some in promoting general well-being, they should not be considered a substitute for proven psychological interventions when addressing trauma, trauma that’s leading to people killing themselves! 🤬🤬
