Teichert's Women in Operations Group recently held their summertime luncheon which traditionally includes our summer interns! It is a great opportunity each year for our interns to learn about the many career paths at Teichert, share their experiences from across the Teichert Family of Companies and receive motivation to become another woman in construction. We encourage you to explore the construction industry and we especially hope you choose Teichert! #Teichert #TeichertFamilyofCompanies #BuildingTrustTradition

Job sites can seem daunting, particularly for women and non-binary folks. But how about empowering them to succeed on-site? Nora Spencer, MSW, founder of Hope Renovations, empowers women and non-binary people through construction training and internship programs. Nora says, "When you hold power tools in your hands among a group of supportive women, your confidence soars! It instills a newfound self-belief, perhaps never tapped into before." As this summer comes to a close and New York City gears up for the upcoming school year, we’d like to shine one more spotlight on this year’s incredible PACT summer interns! This year, we had the biggest group of PACT summer youth interns yet. Here’s some of what they had to say about their experience: “A key source of knowledge that I acquired from the internship is the power of clarity. I would say a lot of the things stated at PACT were things that I heard before but hearing it again and learning more about it (such as boundaries and how trafficking can occur) was informative and took me out of a box of not just knowing, but now UNDERSTANDING.” “The internship succeeded my expectations because I really didn’t think I would have anything much to provide when it comes to non-profit work/anti-trafficking work, since I had no prior knowledge about it. But I think I now have a better understanding of different career paths and the internship even shaped my future career goals a bit as well. I truly felt connected to the work I had done and the people I had met, so I really did just love my time during the internship.” “My career goal is to work in the healthcare industry. This internship was able to prepare me for my future path by providing me with more emphasis in mental care, rather than just physical care. I also learned how to identify when a child is “not okay” or being able to sense when someone is in harm's way.” Until next year! I learned that when it comes to interviews, the "elevator pitch" is a great way to summarize who you are and what you are looking for. I look forward to using this strategy in the future.

Is a student's offer to work "for free" too good to be true? Maybe! I've written an article about the potential legal exposure companies may face if they treat workers as "unpaid interns" as opposed to regular employees, and discussed a possible approach that may minimize the risk. #employmentlaw #wageandhour #misclassification
MWM's Kate LaQuay provides a refresher on employee qualifications for interns as we enter the summer season. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gS7D_AMb

A message from Genesis Cubillas at The City of Tucson Mayors Office: As we head into the holiday weekend to gather and celebrate with loved ones, I am taking a moment to reflect on things I am grateful for this year. One thing that stands out to me is the work of our Interns at Mayor Romero’s office through a partnership between San Miguel High School’s Corporate Work Study Program and the Pima County Summer Youth Employment Program. Our interns—Itzel, Briana, Melany, and Alejandro—remind me of the potential that exists in all young people. They are the next generation of leaders shaping a brighter future for us all. I am thankful for internship programs that are helping us build bridges to opportunity, especially for Tucson’s youth. Youth workforce development programs provide young people with invaluable real-life job training, allowing them to learn critical skills they can use in their future careers. Through these programs, we’re investing in their personal growth and strengthening the foundation of our community by preparing our next generation of leaders. Pima County and the City of Tucson collaborated to pass the Prosperity Initiative, which prioritizes expanding youth workforce development opportunities as part of its policy recommendations. As part of this effort, the City of Tucson provided funding to Pima County to create at least 100 summer internships each year within City Departments, including the Mayor and Council Offices. Internship opportunities like these help young people earn income during summer break, in turn, helping families. This is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we work together to invest in our future. I especially love that our office interns keep me young and up to date with the TikTok lingo, all while challenging policy and bringing fresh perspectives to our office. While they learn from us, they are also teaching us to stay connected to what matters most to the next generation. It has been a privilege to see each one of them grow!
