These statistics on alcohol consumption in the U.S. are quite revealing. The top 10% of consumers are responsible for over 70% of total drinks consumed, with the top 20% consuming more than 2 drinks per day. Conversely, 60% of consumers average less than 1 drink per week. With impending updates to guidelines on safe alcohol consumption levels in the U.S., it will be interesting to observe how this distribution evolves. Where do you fall on this consumption chart? You are assuming that your potential customer base - because of this: With impending updates to guidelines on safe alcohol consumption levels in the U.S., it will be interesting to observe how this distribution evolves. Will change - I don't think it will. People drink alcohol for a purpose - if you want people to drink, what is essentially, a near beer - give them a purpose, don't expect that they will look at government guidelines and all realize that they need to stop drinking alcoholic beverages and switch to a similar, but not, drink to adhere to them.
Ted Fleming this is shocking!! The tide is changing for sure and sadly, I use to be in that top category but now, 15 months later, last place (or first, depending how you want to look at it). Thanks for sharing! 🍻
Would love to see how this looks by age demographic. Also wonder the implications on marketing spend vs M&A strategy for incumbents.
Between 7th and 8th decile right now, and coming down over time 🕺
I guess in this case, don't be in the 1%.
These stats are staggering. Currently in the sixth percentile for now and I’m happy with that 🙏🏾
I've never had a drink in my life, but man, 10+ drinks a day for the top 10%!? I don't even drink that much water in a day.
Well, the good news is that this is based on old data as Bryan Roth pointed out, so hopefully it's better despite the rise of breweries, etc. I'm glad Partake et al are here to chip away at this iceberg, though. It's a behemoth but the times they are a changin'!
Zero! I just convinced the Food and Beverage director at my golf course to consider better “beer shack” options. Partake IPA is on the way!!!
Retail & CPG Strategy
3moInteresting graphic. My guess is it would look similar for most other CPG categories, though. I was shocked to see this figure about pasta consumption at an exhibit. I think we often treat consumers as pretty homogeneous but they’re anything but.
