This time last week we ran our most ambitious and biggest event as part of Techweek. We met several objectives set out on our website (http://www.cdc.kiwi) and here is a report: 1. We showcased, elevated profiles, and gave a platform to hear the stories of some of the finest examples of Indian digital & tech professionals in New Zealand. This time they happened to be women, and it was the first time such a panel has ever come together in New Zealand 🎦 2. We provided an opportunity to network for students, interns, practitioners, and joined the dots through to recruiters, potentially hiring managers, entrepreneurs, community leaders and influencers 💻 3. We gave a direct line-of-sight on the richness of the so-far-overlooked community as invaluable, experienced, and knowledgeable digital and tech connectors when it comes to New Zealand and India (as well as several other countries) 🔭 We saw this as our MVP and our Pitch Day, the panellists as IP, and the audience as potential investors. If it was an IPO, with the full house we had, and the waitlist, we think we would be oversubscribed 💰 Mapping against our own objectives was easy. But we know achieved much more. Very excited to see the flurry of events kick off Techweek NZ. Even more excited to have an India related tech event showcasing some inspiring Indian women tell their inspiring stories. The #SCASummit24 themed "Women in Tech: Driving Innovation for Africa's economy" that took place over the weekend was a truly remarkable event. While attending the event, the very first of (hopefully) many more to come as far as tech events go, I was blown away by the event's production scale, particularly the attention to diversity and inclusion as in line with She Code Africa code which featured things like: - A sign language translator - A prayer room for Muslim attendees - A nursing and childcare room and other ways they tried to make sure they could provide comfort to the attendees of the event. Before mentioning the speakers, I would like to commend the amazing Bisola Amuda, PHRi™, SHRM-CP®, CPHR who excelled as the host while making the event enjoyable. Chisom Nwokwu kicked off the event with "Personal Branding: Balancing Self-Promotion and Value Delivery." during which she emphasized that a personal brand is about providing value and establishing credibility while staying true to oneself. The entry-level breakout session featured Omotola OMOTAYO for "Building a Thriving Career in the AI Era," highlighting AI's potential to increase efficiency and productivity without replacing jobs and Busayo ojo who discussed "Open Source for Everyone: Supercharge Your Tech Career," sharing platforms like Outreachy and GitHub as starting points for either beginning a career in tech while exposing oneself to open source. Damilola Teidi keynote speech shared her journey to the point she's in in her career, and why it is essential for us women to BE THERE, "driving innovation and actively shaping the future of technology." Unfortunately, I had to leave early, but this event will stay with me for a long time. I'm grateful to Ada Nduka Oyom for creating such an empowering community and subsequently letting us have the opportunity to attend this event. PS: I don't have any personal pictures from the event.

Day 1 at Africa Tech Festival: Empowering Women in Tech 🚀 📅 Today was an incredible first day, filled with inspiring sessions and meaningful connections 💡. I had the privilege of attending the EQL Lounge 🛋️, a platform dedicated to re-balancing gender in the technology sector across Africa. The sessions were thought-provoking and insightful, covering key themes such as: 👩💼 Women in African Tech: Funding and Investment 💻 Innovation and Digital Transformation 💪 Talent, Empowerment & Leadership The EQL Lounge provided an intimate setting for panel discussions, keynote addresses, and fireside chats with high-calibre speakers 🗣️. I appreciated the opportunity to engage in dynamic Q&As, and participate in power hour networking sessions 🕒. The conversations centered around empowering women in tech resonated deeply with me ❤️. It's heartening to see the focus on creating a more inclusive and equitable industry 🌎. I'm looking forward to the next two days of the festival, where I'll continue to learn from industry leaders, connect with fellow innovators, and explore the latest tech trends 🚀. As I scrolled through the vibrant stories of the Women in Tech®Uzbekistan opening on LinkedIn and Instagram, I felt inspired to share my reflections. So, here I am, finally writing down my thoughts. However, this post isn’t just to sing praises of an fantastic event, though it certainly was spectacular. This is about a dream and the people who breathe life into it. Ayumi Moore Aoki's words about dreams resonated deeply with me: a dream demands action; otherwise, it remains a fantasy. My dreams are few, but when one takes hold, a list of actions to achieve it springs forth, along with the energy to pursue it relentlessly. A friend once told me it's as if some higher power appoints you to a task. Strong project manager, I guess) And then, people arrive. Yes, they come. Sometimes, I find myself in the right place at the right moment or meet someone new on the street. They come to join forces, to turn a shared dream into reality. Such was the dream of launching Women in Tech®Uzbekistan—a community whose values and potential benefits for Uzbek women I deeply understand. This dream led me to Anastasia Triohbratscaia and Shavkat Karimov, then to Kamola Sobirova, Sofiya Gaynutdinova, Iroda Azimova, Natalya S., Kristina Vanina, and Gulnoza Abdurashidova. And together, we dreamed. Is it possible? I never stopped to ponder; we simply did. Was it easy? Far from it. But there was always a path in mind. A single post isn't enough to express my gratitude to all the people, partners, and volunteers who lent their support. They each deserve their own accolades. The essence is to dream, take action, and find your people. People united by a single dream can change everything in this world. 🌟 I had the incredible opportunity to attend the She Code Africa 2024 Summit virtually, and it was nothing short of empowering! 🚀 From the inspiring talks to the insightful panels, it was an event packed with value for women in tech. 💡 Key Takeaways: 1. Embracing AI: The breakout session with Omotola OMOTAYO was a highlight for me! She discussed how we can actively embrace AI in our careers, and her perspective on the evolving tech landscape was truly eye-opening. 2. Opensource for Growth: Another standout was Busayo ojo's session on how “Opensource is your way up as a newbie in tech.” The power of contributing to open source and building your portfolio resonated with me, and I can't wait to dive deeper into it. 3. Panel Insights: The panellists Adeola Alli, Dr.(hc) ‘Jumoke Aleoke-Malachi (workplacewithJAM), and Ugochi Agoreyo also shared some intriguing insights that resonated deeply with me. Their collective wisdom on leadership, navigating challenges, and carving your niche in tech was so valuable. The She Code Summit reminded me that: 1. Diversity is Power: Having different voices in tech drives innovation. It was inspiring to see so many brilliant women making waves in a male-dominated field. 2. Continuous Learning: In this ever-evolving industry, staying curious and consistently upskilling is key to success. The speakers encouraged us to always challenge ourselves and embrace new technologies. 3. Community Matters: A strong support system, both inside and outside of work, is essential. It's important to lift each other and create opportunities for other women in tech. 4. Bold Leadership: Be confident in taking risks, and don’t be afraid to step into leadership roles. The summit highlighted the importance of making your voice heard in critical conversations. To all the amazing women in tech who attended, spoke, or organised this event: THANK YOU!
