PhD education student at UCT | Coding and Robotics Lecturer and Teaching Practice Coordinator at Two Oceans Graduate Institute | Online Learning Manager at Action iT Learning | Masters in Educational Technology (UCT)
My digital tool list is increasing 💡 I have been playing around with different online applications (some in isolation, others in a joint attempt). I am trying to find user-friendly, cost-effective platforms for two different purposes. Firstly, to promote engagement during synchronous sessions. Secondly, to introduce the foundation of Coding and Robotics, as well as AI, to my third and fourth-year students. Some of my pain points in this 'investigation' have been: 1. The information overload of the different applications out there (and how to most effectively use them). 2. The user limit and cost repercussions when upgrading. 3. With some of my students learning how to use Excel for the first time, to others who are in the software development space, finding the sweet spot where realities are considered, yet learners are stimulated, can be a task on its own. The South African digital divide in a world where technology is rapidly accelerating can be a daunting challenge. What has been working for me: 1. Take learners on the journey with you. 2. Read and research. Explore and experiment. 3. Be open-minded. Finding EdTech solutions is a continuous, outcome-based approach. I am all for the mindset of a lifelong learner (suggestions are always welcome). I hope this inspires someone to implement an innovative application, that you have been secretly thinking about, which could problem-solve or simplify whatever you are busy with 🧠

#EdTech. It's always exciting to dive into new areas of technology. Recently, I had the chance to learn about EdTech, which gave me insights beyond just the tech itself. I had time with teachers and students from Senior One to Senior Six, and it was interesting to hear their perspectives on technology in education, as well as the challenges and opportunities they see. Few challenges: 1. Adaptation: It's still challenging for a teacher to get used to only using a totally new approach, but with a supportive school administration and smooth transition it can make a big difference. 2. Mindset: Some teachers and students believe tech gadgets are just for browsing, chatting, and gaming, which can be distracting. However, with the right tools and support from the school administration, this can be tackled.

As innovation and technology emerge, thinking about how much they will transform education is exciting. From the emergence of AI tutors to virtual reality field trips, the possibilities are endless and promise to take learning beyond the traditional four walls of a classroom. Technology integration in education has already shown promising results in improving accessibility and individualizing learning experiences. By utilizing artificial intelligence and other digital tools, we can address the diverse needs of students, making education more inclusive. Adopting these technologies may have several challenges, including infrastructure requirements, data privacy concerns, and equity issues. Nevertheless, it is up to us – educators, technologists, and policymakers – to navigate these challenges wisely to unlock the full potential of tech-integrated education. If your kids learn in a last-century school environment, they might miss many opportunities. Get inspired by www.kinichschool.com

🧠 ❓ Did you happen to forget something really important?❓🧠 So that you do something else, but in the back of your mind all the time you have this nagging thought that, however, there was something else to do? Yes? Me too... That's why my Wife is mad at me 😀 Imagine a future where personal assistants aren't just apps on your phone... Hey, no need to imagine. It's already here. ;) Meet Doly, a robotic assistant designed to revolutionize our daily lives. Doly runs on Raspberry Pi, Offering personalized support from setting reminders to weather updates. But Doly's appeal doesn't stop at assistance. It's a dynamic educational tool I wish I had when I was younger. With block-based coding, it introduces users to the essential programming. I see it as an excellent STEM tool that sparks curiosity about science and technology in my daughter. What’s even more exciting. You can expand it like lego block with a new sensors and segments. What do you think about integrating such tools into our daily lives? Could they be the key to unlocking a new generation of tech enthusiasts? material credits: Limitbit
