One observation having read this insightful report on the global potential of MMC and reflecting on my work in other sectors including oil and gas, is that I have yet to see any industry be transformed by product solutions that can be more costly and do not fit customer requirements – regardless of government interventions. I believe it is absolutely critical for any business to meet the genuine needs of its customers - including on design, energy efficiency and lead times - and to deliver on cost and quality every time. Last year the UK Collaborative Centre for Housing Evidence (CCHE) published this really interesting report - ‘The Potential Role of MMC in Addressing Systemic Supply Issues.’ Led by the University of Glasgow, the CCHE aims to highlight challenges in UK housing and promote evidence-based solutions to tackle the issues. The report, which is full of useful insight, brings a much wider view of MMC – how these solutions are used globally and the drivers, including government incentivisation and interventions to promote the use of MMC. Dr Anthony Greer, TALO's Director of Corporate Strategy responds: "Whilst support from the UK Government can be hugely helpful, as offsite manufacturers, we believe we have a responsibility to listen empathetically to our customers and to deliver superior solutions on their terms – regardless of the construction methodology."
